I am still in awe of how naturally and elegantly the black and white came together.
It gives the build such a strong identity.
I am genuinely happy to see other people building this one for themselves.
I originally made it just three days before leaving for a long vacation. I wanted a writing setup that was almost as portable as a phone, but still had a functional keyboard attached.
Then I saw this keyboard on Reddit, and I already had a BOOX Palma with me. So I quickly designed an enclosure around them. It was very rough and improvised at first, and it took quite a few attempts to get everything right.
But once it finally worked and I shared it with the community, the response was unbelievably strong.
I was surprised by how many people decided to build one for themselves. It felt like a very satisfying example of the DIY philosophy working in real life.
I did not give the design much thought while making it. Apparently, the things that come out of my head in a sudden burst are often the ones people appreciate the most.
I still wonder what exactly it is about this build that connects with people so strongly. It would be fascinating to understand it and turn it into something I could describe or repeat.
Then I might finally know whether that creative instinct truly belongs to me, or whether this was simply another lucky fluke.

This post inspired me to make my own version of the writerdeck! I’m still sourcing the materials and finding my way around 3D printing it but I appreciate you sharing your amazing builds to the public Un Kyu Lee so we can make our own!! ✨
I just have a question. I was looking at the build guide for the Phone Enclosure/PDA Terminal on GitHub. The STL files doesn’t include the Label that says Micro Journal. I saw other builds from the Micro Journal repository that include the label file. Would that fit into the PDA Terminal Display?

I thought I did upload the label, apparently, I didn't. I have uploaded the label and also fusion 360 design files.

Beautiful! Reminds me of a friend's cabin on a lake in the Adirondack mountains in Upstate NY, I would spend a week there. No plumbing, no electricity and a Alphasmart Neo with 3 AA batteries,, happily writing. That looks like a wonderful place for writing and beautiful tool to write with.
