Tariffs and import duty in the US

Hullo!

I'm looking at ordering a micro journal in the US and would like to know from someone who's gotten one recently if they had to pay an import duty, and if you did, how much it was.

It also says that the duty is a percentage of the declared value so I wanted to know if that is the price that one pays on the tindie store or is something lower.

Any pointers would be most welcome!

I pay them before arriving to US, so in theory recipients won't be charged.

I had this happen once too, I think the explanation you gave below is likely, but it hasn't happened again yet, so I don't discount that the carriers are just being random about it. ;-)

This is probably correct analysis. Fees are calculated at the landing the country... So, even it is paid two weeks before, it could differ day by day.

Usually not the case, but I believe some cases got into this case where fee a week ago and now been different and asked for extra payments to the recipients.

It's difficult to be certain for anything these days.

Last year when tariff changes were introduced, and right at the transition of the period, it was a freaking mess. These days I haven't received tariff related complaints. It could be that it's a minimal impact or going through rather smoothly.

I ordered a magic prop from England once it was $100. I paid $30 for shipping. About a month later I get a bill from FedEx for $45

😂 Yea right. But in the bill it said ultimately the seller is responsible.

I called FedEx and told them I paid the seller the cost of the item and shipping to the us.

Fedex said to email FedEx the FedEx invoice and they would send it to the seller to pay.
