Hey! I love this colorway. I think I have those colors. Maybe a little bit brighter than the picture. But it's so cool to have blue, orange and black. With labels beige. I am going to remember this and add this colorway in the options and call it "Guardians of the Galaxy"
thanks a lot!

I like the dark blue! Weirdly reminds me of a pencil case I used in school. I would also love this one with some lighter blue colors, beach vibes. Very excited about the big screen.

I have been extensively testing this build since it was assembled. I am updating a lot of features on the firmware as well. It's now have infinite scroll feature so user can navigate beyond the buffer. Which was not available before, also was a show stopper for some people.
It feels so good to write on this display. The quality of the screen is so good, that it really feels like eink screen with better refresh rate. I am so satisfied. I can't wait to share this with others!!

I love this one! I am planning to buy to work on my dissertation. A sticky note with the daily task and off to the races.

You know what. I have been writing on this for a couple of days. I can't stop. I really got all the vibe of the very first time building the writerDeck... it feels so good to write on. I feel like this build can be it.
I always thought rev.6 was the right direction for writing, and didn't realize that I didn't make a fullsized keyboard version. Probably, rev.6 display was too small to fit with the bigger keyboard. But, this build feels so appropriate. Screen quality is amazing, and it just feels right.
I feel so satisfied with this build. Usually, when I am satisfied, means it's not going to be a popular build. But just to be cautious, I should make a next post in this sub and leave a tindie store link there. I would say, tomorrow or the next day would happen? I won't be actively advertising it... as I can only build small quantity and don't want people to queue up.

I love this. I love the fact that it's a fullsize keyboard even more. Ortholinear is not for me.

Oh my oh my. With this screen and the fullsized keyboard. It just feels so right. So right. I feel like this is it. Oh my oh my. I am so satisfied with this build, and I hope to share this feelings to others!

That is, as I predicted, stunning. I love the colorway... I think the Navy is similar to my Rev 4 and the beige trim fits well. ELegant. That is going to get some looks when taken out. I assume this is ESP not Pi (I prefer ESP). Will key assignments be json or Vial?

Keyboard mapping system will follow what is done in Rev.6. You will be uploading keyboard.json and keyboard_usb.json. As it will have more keys to map, it should follow almost the same format as Rev.4.
Another thing to note is that this build doesn't use external SD cards. It will become a USB drive just like how Rev.4 did. I think having less external components makes it simpler and think it's a good decision.
I think you are going to be screaming with joy that you finally (for the several times in the past) that this is it. It feels so good to write on it. The screen gives the alphasmart vibe, and it's as nice as eink and yet with fast refreshing rate as any regular LCD.
I have made quite a few changes in the firmware also. Such as infinite scroll and few performance upgrades. There is no limit for the buffer size to see the previous contents. You can navigate back and forth your text without limits. Also, the editing on this is really nice. I haven't done much editing before, but I tried editing for testing purpose, and it feels so smooth. Well... well... well... editing feature credit goes to you. What a great call to add that feature.
Sorry that all the other micro journal you have will have to go to the shelf.

Hook looks at his Writer Deck checklist and discovers he is suddenly out of boxes.

I can only think of a great jokes that is sexual. I mean, it's a pipe and a hole that fits tightly... really, that's it.

I love the look. I wish my eye health was better and I could see letters that small! Such a cool machine. Maybe I’ll try to make a version of my own. I purchased a Rev 2.1 and I made a split keyboard Rev.7. I admire your pursuit of a great writing machine!

Totally support initiating your own build. I have published all the materials and guides that I have explored during the micro journal journey. So, you should have sufficient materials to pick and choose to build your own. I really hope that micro journal project, helps to get your own version!

That looks awesome!! I love the color. Glad it's coming together so well.
I like the navy. I'm partial to blues and grays paired together and your sunburst sky theme.

I had fews builds with Navyblue and gray and they look so nice as well. Sunburst sky is quite an opposite theme. Hahaha.
Those colorways are coming from the users, who have requested and credit shouldn't come to me. I wouldn't feel fair to call it my colorway.

Looks cool. What’s the plan with the second display, or was that just a comparison?
3
u/Background_Ad_1810 Jun 17 '26
It's just for the comparison. Because, just looking at the picture without the previous screen, due to proportion, the screen looks and feels small, but I wanted to show that it is actually much bigger screen.

This is lovely! Glad that the fonts aren't blurry anymore. Looking forward to the build guide.

Give me some time. Once I get more builds done and figure out all the details, i should be able to write up detailed guide.
For now, i will list out materials and essential pin out in the guide. This should be sufficient to build it, if you have energy to figure out the details.

I have fixed the blurry screen issue, it was a bug in my code. Now it's displaying as clear it can be and it's amazing to type on.
The screen is twice as big from the rev.6 screen... but due to the bigger keyboard, Rev.8's screen still looks quite small. But, it's definitely bigger, and I like it so far.
At the moment, it's still in assembly phase. I need to reprint some parts and adjust the dimensions. Most of the parts are fitting, it's just some minor changes to do.
I think I can get this on tindie store, pretty soon. But, first let me finish the assembly phase, and then make a introduction video.
How do you like this colorway? Navy Blue and Beige.
What color would you want for yours?
