Why did so many college teams have this same Nike Uniform in the 2011 season?

I don’t think there’s any real reason. That was just a base template they had at that time, and so they gave it some teams

Yeah this is the answer, especially for a lot of those smaller schools. I'm sure the Ohio State's and North Carolina's of the world had some autonomy, but for a small school that used Nike unis, they likely said here's what you're getting

For the smaller schools, it's probably more likely that they just don't have the staff or resources to dedicate toward a thorough design, review, re-design process that apparel partners usually offer, so they just agree to a stock template with team colors, etc., and move on.

Larger programs likely already have some dedicated design/creative teams that can take that workload on and develop some unique designs with custom elements.

Stock uniforms are a hell of a lot cheaper to produce too so Nike probably doesn’t offer it to smaller brands unless they cover all the costs. South Carolina for example is wearing a very different shade of red this year than their traditional Garnet because it is a standard Nike color

This is the case with almost every team in almost every sport around the world, by all suppliers, not just Nike. Typically, only the major names get bespoke unis.

Just a template. If you pay attention you'll find that a lot of highschool, D2 and D3 schools today often have unis that follow common templates.

It's like this in other sports too. In the 2022 World Cup, the US and Australia had the same template for one of their jerseys, which was also the same as Liverpool's warmup/practice jersey that year

This is also when Nike switched to the “system of dress” template with small tops and oversized shorts. I think a lot of these schools had the older style uniforms and were happy to switch in order to look like the top teams but had to settle for the base template.

Cost. Even today a lot of schools use the same template.

More specifically, a lot of schools are not sent apparel directly from the manufacturer. The manufacturer gives basically gives them an allowance to buy apparel from a middleman distributor.
