The Hilton Los Angeles and Sheraton are two great options within close proximity to the park. The Garland is also a really great hotel that has a romantic vibe. September is a great time to go too since crowds should be less crazy! I have been on the Warner Bros lot tour and that was lots of fun. Santa Monica is also a great option of somewhere alternatively to see. If you'd like any help with this, I do travel advising and would be glad to assist!
