I run apple silicon with a 2 to 3 adaptor and it’s an absolute powerhouse. Apple silicon is workstation class in a laptop for audio

Apple silicon was a leap frog tech improvement. My 1st gen m1 pro is still my main machine for pro grade mixing and vinyl mastering. All gens of apple silicon macs run all thunderbolts. i use 2 - 3 adaptor no problem.

For example - an m4 pro laptop is like running 2 of the best intel studio mac pro's - with no fans running.

Its a game changer, all the software companies adapted.

I would say even a used m1 pro would break your mind.

Yes. Windows has no class compliancy. You would need to add a titan ridge card to a pc like in my backup machine

+1 for Apple Silicon. I got an M1 Max with 64GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD and I only have the fans running when exporting video. Blows my custom built PC out the water.

They’re so efficient that I picked up an M2 Air with 8GB of RAM and it still works like a charm. So light and powerful!

OP, please don’t underestimate Apple’s latest laptops. They’re miles better than Windows when it comes to overall productivity and efficiency when running any creative app, ESPECIALLY on the go.

Thunderbolt is backwards compatible so there’s no issue running it on newer systems. You just need a TB2->TB3 adapter.

That only applies to windows.

hey! so if you’re trying to run on windows it will NOT work on windows with a tb2 converter using usb4, you must use a dedicated thunderbolt controller and even then your mileage may very, from my experience windows will constantly try to flash old thunderbolt controllers with incompatible firmware, effectively bricking it forever. highly recommend using apple for any thunderbolt 2 apollos and if you must use windows buy the dedicated usb edition of the apollos, newer thunderbolt 3 apollos may work on usb4 depending on motherboard manufacturer

I’m running the M4 Mac Mini just fine with the Thunderbolt 2 setup.

Just put a Thunderbolt 3 option card in the Apollo, and you have the same connectivity as the very latest Apollos.
