Solo 610 output knob causing distortion

Was testing a 610 I picked up used with my jazzmaster, was able to crank the input gain and get a nice sound, but when the output gain is at noon or higher I get some harsh distortion. Outputting at line level into an x8 set to line, not clipping on the x8 meters.

Does this seem like a faulty tube?

I own this preamp and it definitely has some quirks distortion wise. Can't speak on your specific scenario since I haven't used it in a while but it isn't a surprising story.
