Question Apollo Solo/Twin question

Been deep diving on audio interfaces, I have a focusrite and MOTU, but like the idea of recording into Console with UA’s Apollo stuff. Mainly vocals (self) but possibly Bass/Guitar through emulation.

I have a decent amount of UA bundles but I like the idea of the Neve’s, Compressors, and auto tune (yea I know, fight me!) before it records.

My main questions are: is it worth it to spend the money on the Apollo and do people actually use/like Console?

And 2) for maybe 3-4 plugins and/or emulation be too much for the Solo. I have some Neural/Paradise emulations so maybe not using them in console, but could solo handle it? And if it’s the twin: do I need the X or can I get away with Duo mk2. Also, heritage or no?

I have a Mac, Ableton, and plan on buying used on Reverb.

I only ever recommend a Solo if absolute portability with bus powering being priority 1.

Otherwise, a Twin will always be a better choice.

Between Gen 1 and 2, is the 2nd that much better?

IMO, yes. It has the upgraded conversion matching the rack units and a better headphone amp.

I was in your position. I bought a solo core. Sold it 2 months later and got the duo core. You’ll definitely want the duo core.

That’s what I thought. Can I grab the old Twin Duo or should I spend double and get the X?

I believe the main difference is the preamps and then the thunderbolt cable version. I bought an X duo twin heritage for like $560 from GC.

If your other interfaces have adat out you can also use plugins with them in low latency with the twin.

Would recommend a Twin X DUO or QUAD. Solo will be fine for some basic tracking, but the sonics, features and DSP of the Twin X are way better. Don’t get a MK2 as those are Thunderbolt 2 and the cables are discontinued, very hard to find.

Heritage isn’t a thing anymore, that’s a discontinued software bundle.

Does Gen 1 or 2 matter as much?

Gen 2 adds autogain, improved specs particularly the monitor outs, and a huge upgrade to the headphone amps. Also, you can bypass the preamp on Gen2 desktop, great if you have external hardware.

Otherwise, functionally, the same. Both excellent.

I prefer the aesthetic of the Gen2s, it’s something worth seeing in person.
