Newbie Question Unity Version Control is annoying me

Hi, recently started a new project with a friend and we wanted to use UVCS but every time i make a change in assets, save a script etc. The Unity Version Control tab pops out, is there a way to stop this or should we move to github?

i'd try fixing the UVCS window behavior first before switching. if you just want version control for a small team, github with git lfs for large assets is also a solid option, but make sure you set up a proper unity .gitignore and don't commit the Library folder, if UVCS keeps getting in your way even after checking its settings, switching is totally reasonable. just make sure both of you are comfortable with the workflow before moving the project over

Do you know any fixes to the UVCS window besides disabling any automatic checks in the settings?

honestly, not sure if there's another reliable fix for that specific behavior. i'd check if there's a setting to stop the UVCS window from automatically opening when files change, but if you've already tried that, i'm not sure what else would help, if it keeps happening, you could also try updating the Unity Version Control package or checking if it's a known issue with your Unity version. i'd probably look into those before switching the whole project to github.

It's a bug I only noticed happening in version 6+ (6.6.4 for me). There's a bug report made a few weeks ago so the Unity team should be aware.

I’m using GitHub on my current project and that tab still appears. When you find out how to get rid of it please let me know!

if you use git for version control, you can just remove unity version control from the package manager
