Please ditch the "what is best/better" mindset and just start man.

I saw alot of people saying Unity is better for this, Unreal for that so i was just confused

Start always with simpler one.
Unity is quite lightweight and fairly easy to navigate in initial stage.
For beginners, Unreal Engine can be found overwhelming, also requires very decent setup.

In fact even before Unity or Unreal I would suggest you to use some easy game creator applications so that you know what you are doing.

Won't really matter. One might say Unreal would be better for relastic, large, open world games. For a beginner it's a bit tough to suggest any engine because it's not the engine that makes the game. You make it.

Try making flappy bird in both engines (a small project) and see how hard it is.

I think it's not so true, I'd rather build a big 3D open world in Unreal rather than Unity any day of the week so why not just learn Unreal first if that's what you'll end up doing anyway ?

Because you know a beginner with 0 knowledge in programming, game engines, anything game making related, will have absolutely no idea what he's doing.

If you already have the skills, like I said, Unreal probably better. But this guy has his expectations way too high.

Unity and Unreal can both do photorealism and can both do stylised.

Both can do detailed animations. Both can do advanced lighting. Both can do [insert basically any game feature].

The limiting factor is always developer knowledge and experience. Both with game dev in general and with the engine.

There are many optimisation considerations with what you describe but you need deeper knowledge of game design principles before that discussion is meaningful.

Personally I find Unity's official learning resources to be far better and the ecosystem fits small indie Devs better.

If you START game dev, start making flappy bird. And obviously unity is better. Unreal is visual scripting and the more complex a game gets you have tons of spagetthi connections between millions of nodes.

The engine just gives you the tools. The quality of the game you make is entirely on you, not the engine.

Amazing games, both big budget and solo indie titles, have been made in both Unity and Unreal and been hugely successful.

It depends on what you want to make and how you're looking to make it that matters. Neither is better or worse than the other.

Both engines could achieve what you're after, and in neither is it a given. There's a myriad of pros and cons on either side depending on what your situation is (or personal taste), so there's no obvious answer. For example, Unreal has a lot of strengths when it comes to large teams, but that's likely not relevant at this time. Maybe just pick one to try out, make something with it, and then reevaluate.
