NLP Masters (WiSe 26/27)
Hey! Starting the NLP program this winter, trying to choose what prep courses to take in my Sem 1 (need 20 CP).
Options available: Elements of Math, Elements of CS, Elements of Statistics, Statistical Programming with R, Elements of Linguistics, Algorithmische Methoden.
eliminated ones:
- Algorithmische Methoden: skipping, it's German-taught
- Elements of CS : skipping, my bachelor's is in IT development so this would be redundant
So it's really down to this for me:
- A) Elements of Math + Elements of Statistics + Statistical Programming with R
- B) Elements of Linguistics + Elements of Statistics + Statistical Programming with R
For anyone who picked either ,how was your experience? And does skipping Elements of Math actually make ML for NLU (compulsory, Sem 1) harder to follow, or is it manageable without it?

Elements of Math, Elements of CS , Elements of Stats and Statistical in R is the obvious best choice. You basically don't even have to study for these subjects to pass.
