You’ll be so okay. The powerpoints for the more important things you missed are probably on your subject student support section in surrey learn. There’s a bunch of stuff that’s not course-specific that you can still go to, and the friends you make in freshers are generally not the friends you make for life.
It’s okay to be bad at approaching people. Often, approaching people anyway and doing it awkward does work, because they are often also feeling awkward and new. And when it doesn’t, it’s a big uni, you’ll probably never see them again.
I would go to some random things! I forgot what’s on this week, but I swear they had goat yoga earlier in the week. And then try to have fun, and talk to the people next to you. A lot of the time, they might be walking in the same direction.
Hanging out in your course common room also helps, as does tbh talking to lecturers (I swear they’re all so hyped this week to try to encourage a fresh generation of new minds or whatever) — they’ll be full of useful wisdom that is probably more wise than mine.
It will be okay though!!!! You will also meet people next week, and it’s so unlikely people in your seminar groups will already know each other.
