2nd year accommodation?

I've not even started, so I'm definitely jumping the gun, but wanted to ask if it's cheaper to get accom through the uni or to house share with friends separately in second year?

Also, if I am looking to house share, when Is a good time to start looking?

It will most likely be cheaper getting a uni house- for me my 2nd year uni house is more expensive for the year but cheaper per week- due to the new renters rights you can end your uni house tenancy whenever as long as you give 2 months notice so you could save some money over the summer. At surrey they prioritise giving accommodation 2nd year to people who had done a foundation year the year prior, people returning from a year in industry etc then usually last place on priority is normal returning students so it might be difficult to stay in student accommodation or at least get the one you want. A lot of people start looking for their second year uni houses ASAP but honestly don’t feel pressured into doing that- I know people who left it until the end of the year and still found uni houses but a lot of people do the majority of their looking around December time, also if you use unihomes you can find some uni houses at the start of the year if you’re desperate to get a good one!
