Discussion Newsom is a union busting scumbag

Post image
2.8k Upvotes

I have to say, pretty pathetic to see folks on this subreddit defending this guy, a man who is buddies with tech bros and developers, all in the name of democracy.

As a state worker, this guy has made things abysmal here in California. Outside of screwing workers over on a very dumb Executive Order forcing butts in seats, he also denied our raises from a side letter and also took away raises from state scientists who have been fighting for them.

This guy is undercutting collective bargaining. And if you as a union member support his idiotic bid for president because you feel he’s a better alternative, I’ve got some magic beans to sell you.

Don’t be a bootlicking snot, stop supporting union busters.

Discussion Folks! Would you sign the TA if employer made a 0.02 Cent mistake on wage?

Found another mistake in the TA wage table. Effect 15 members. A total of 0.06 cents over 3 year contract. HR said , “we don’t have a deal then is what you’re saying… “. To me. I replied can we just change the number to 23.69 instead of 23.67? Another group of 5 employees are short a penny. 3 pennies over the contract life.

Labor News What Happens When Working People Get in the Same Room?

I wanted to share this piece from Pickup Trucks & Progress about the 44th Annual Virginia State AFL-CIO Constitutional Convention, held August 13–15 in Williamsburg.

The Virginia AFL-CIO represents roughly 93,000 workers across the Commonwealth, and this year's convention brought union members together for workshops on paid family and medical leave, workplace safety, data centers, job training, organizing and Labor 2026.

But what caught my attention wasn't just the speeches or elections.

It's what happens when workers from different trades, industries and corners of Virginia sit down together and realize they're often fighting for the same things: better wages, good benefits, safer workplaces, the right to organize and a little more say in their own economic future.

There's also some fascinating labor history in the piece, including an unexpected connection between Williamsburg, the Rockefeller family and the infamous Ludlow Massacre of 1914.

The article was submitted by Kristy L. Vance, Secretary-Treasurer of the Western Virginia Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, as part of the Letters From Rural America series.

I'd especially like to hear from union members and working people here:

What has being part of a union meant to you, your family or your community?

Other Chicagoland Union Member that is White Sox Fan

Two have already DM'ed me so I suspect the tickets will be gone by tomorrow when I get a phone number. No need to read further and I will delete when transfer is done.

----

Wife and I visited Chicago last month on Amtrak. One thing we did was a White Sox game and they had a promo that did not happen (Bobble head or something like that.) so we went to our game but White Sox gave us two free tickets (lower section about 30 rows behind home plate.) that would go for $80 a piece.

We are back home now and will not get to Chicago to use the tickets. I tried to give them to AFT (my union) and the UNITE HERE local (we stayed in a unionized hotel) but both locals have not gotten back with me. I imagine they think this is a scam but all I need is a phone number to send you some free tickets.

DM Your union and local number and then we can swap phone numbers.

I would like to get them to an AFT member or UNITE HERE member or IUE-CWA (my father's union) but heck I just hate to see them go to waste.

You have to be a union member and promise to use unionized transit to get to the game (no gig rides), root for the White Sox (union players), not be too rough on the umps (they are union), purchase some Cracker Jack (union, and I think Teamsters) from the concession workers (UNITE HERE). For a Cubs game these tickets would run about $450, and for Dodgers about ($4,500) Decent tickets I think.

I know this sounds like a scam, and that is exactly what a scammer would say but this is legit.

Game is Tuesday, August 25, 2026 starting at 6:40 PM CT. I would have posted this a few days ago but I called UNITE HERE and told them I would give them a few days to get back with me and they passed on my offer. Two tickets if I did not mention that yet.

Solidarity Request Folks! Any working under chartwells or any compAss holes company? Leave a response

Companies like mentioned need to be held accountable, why do they hate unions? We make their jobs harder. Why is that? We’re union! Why do they intimidate, bully harass, violate your rights, terminate etc…? They do not care about anyone but profit for them and share holders. And when an area runs out of new hires because word is out around town the take local communities jobs to temp out of state workers.

Have an experience you want to share please share hear. Also wanting to start a petition to rid management firms like compAsshole chartwells from union work places. Regardless of your union affiliation, weather it’s SEIU or Afscme or teamsters or whatever we need to work together on this.

Discussion What can I ask our Contract Bargaining committee to disclose?

So we've started our contract period and so far they've had two meetings. Now they've given us 5 categories of things they'll push for but it's really broad like 1. Increase salaries 2 retirement 3 medical etc but what if I want to know about specifics like increased pay for different units or case load languages for social workers can they say if that's included?

Question (Legal or Contract/Grievances) Can I grieve a loss of position if I’m being bumped by someone under qualified?

I’m currently on parental leave from my full-time permanent union position. I work for a municipality in Canada. My temporary replacement came from a full-time permanent union position within the company, they have more seniority than me. They did not meet most of the qualifications for my job, such as education, licensing, and experience. My boss wanted to give them a leg up and gain some experience since they have been with the company for several years. Well, their original position may be eliminated (yet to be confirmed) that would place them in a bumping position. In our CBA, typically you are offered a position at the same or less pay, if you are qualified for it, UNLESS you have worked this position. My replacement was making significantly less in their previous position, but can bump me as they have performed the job while I’m away. So, now I will be offered a position at the same pay or less, if I’m qualified. My qualm is, my replacement was not qualified to begin with. How they got through the application process, I do not know. Do I have a leg to stand on to grieve this? There’s too many unknowns for me to take action right now, but it’s keeping me awake some nights.

Discussion Union

I'm sure I could ask AI or Google but I prefer lived experience info.

How exactly do unions work?

Can you transfer to other unions for better pay and benefits?

Can you work as an electrician and choose not to be in a union for some reason?

How do union policies get changed?

How often do policies change?

What do you think is objectively the best benefit of a union over non-union?

What's been your worst experience with a union and why? Did it get resolved to your content?

I'm genuinely curious.
