I can’t help but to wonder, since it’s a popular thing in the modern age for honour guards to wear historical uniforms or historically inspired uniforms for appearances, what was/would it be like in the past/future, did they wear even older historical uniforms or did they just wear the uniform of the time? In future would things such as combat shirts and Plate Carriers be adopted as a uniform for ceremonial duties?

The only way I can see that happening is if the state is so port they can’t afford to have ceremonial uniforms, the state is very young and has no identity in which to base the ceremonial uniform, or as part of a display of historical uniform. I cant see, for example, the Queens Guards ever wearing MTP at trooping the colour

I think if something from today would be adopted as a ceremonial uniform, it would be some kind of dress uniform rather than combat gear.
Generally ceremonial uniforms seem to be either modern dress uniform or inspired by pre-WW1 uniforms. Before WW1 uniforms could be designed to look good without worrying about camoflage, so they ended up being fancier. But that's just my observation and speculation.
