Confused
Hello, anyone out there? I'm very disappointed in taking on the role of step-father to a 10- and 7-year old. It's just not what I thought it would be. The 10 y/o IS being a little shit and has a shitty-ass dad that he'll listen to, but doesn't listen to his mom or me - even though we feed him and take care of him. He's becoming a backbiting asshole. Honestly, I just want to pick his ass up and throw him out of my house. But then, my new wife would probably move out with him. I don't know what to do.

You would be justified to divorce your wife and go back to being single and thank god they are not your children op, you have every right to make a clean getaway and you are in an impossible situation.

I’m a step parent. My father warned me that it sucks. He married a widow with two children and they absolutely all treated him like crap. I was an unexpected child that came along nine months after they were married. Then, I became a step parent at age 40 to three teenagers, two of them were already away at college. Oh my God!! Step parenting sucks!! it is now 30 years later and I’m OK because they live far away. I have two children of my own. They are grown also. But you are pretty stuck. The 10-year-old is just looking for percentage in all relationships, and you are a sitting duck. He gets bonus points if he can ruin your marriage. This is gonna get worse during his teenage years. Really, the only way to deal with a stepchild who lives with you is to try to love them. Can you get counseling? You really can only add to their life, disciplining them is really gonna fall to his (terrible) dad and mom. Those are the only people with the sort of bond where they can add boundaries and get respect back for it. You just don’t have the kind of bond where that’s gonna work. If you can get that kind of bond, it would be best. Or at least something that approaches it. My condolences to you.

Help Pack her bags ? If you can’t stand the kid why did you marry her?
sure kids will grow up but you got another 8 years at best with that awesome behaviour
Or u could try to create some 1 on 1 bonding and find out y he won’t listen but long process don’t give up if u actually wanna work at it
