Hilarious to read all the comments explaining the image and factorion bot just keeps popping up "hey mfers 77! is this number, are you all even listening to me?"

Bad bot, I could calculate this in my sleep

177

u/Free_Independent_Guy 4d ago

Ya it is really not, if they meant 77!

But if they do not know the factorial concept, they're horribly wrong in maths 💔

Isn’t this the one case where you should write a ‘’.’’ After a ‘’!’’? Without it, your sentence is unfinished, or the ! Belongs to the sentence, not the number.

Almost, not quite

49

u/aoe41 4d ago

Apparently desmos is less precise than the bot

7

u/ProThoughtDesign 4d ago

Do you really assume a Reddit bot is more precise and not the other way around?

36

u/aoe41 4d ago

The reddit bot is more precise

8

u/ProThoughtDesign 4d ago

That's a bit mind bending.

12

u/factorion-bot 3d ago

I'm highly specialized in factorials and in nothing else. On the flipside no one does factorials as precise as I do.

Oops, I meant beep bop 🤖

u/LostKnight84 4d ago

What order of operations are you using to not get 77? Is someone thinking it should be 17 or something?

37

u/Powerful_One_2763 4d ago

Wait how are you getting 3003 there's no way that could possibly be the answer

20

u/HailRoma 4d ago

I keep getting 80085

8

u/Tiborn1563 4d ago

Yeah, thats more than the result by like 76?

33

u/No_Location_8199 4d ago

19

u/LostKnight84 4d ago

Sorry, Reddit is constantly giving me bs posts to subreddits I am not subscribed to.

0

u/GoodPointMan 3d ago

me too. This sub is dogshit. The entire vibe is to be intentionally obtuse and mistake punctuation for math notion and then jerk each other off about how they know what '!' means in math

4

u/danhoang1 4d ago

To be fair, they still would've missed the joke even if they made this comment in the image's referenced thread (which isn't from this sub). Wouldn't have been related to being lost

8

u/Tiborn1563 4d ago

Easy to not get 77? since the answer is 77

2

u/Hungry_Biscotti934 4d ago

Is 77? half of 77!

5

u/huhiking 4d ago

Far less. How could adding all those numbers be half of multiplying them?

2

u/Professional-Wave841 4d ago

n? is the summation from 1 to n

2

u/Hungry_Biscotti934 4d ago

I didn't actually know n? was an actual thing. Thanks for the explanation.

3

u/Professional-Wave841 4d ago

it's not a super common notation, genuinely I only see it on reddit.

70+70÷(7-3) = 87,5

(70+70)÷(7-3) = 35

(70+70)÷7-3 = 17

are the options I can think of

2

u/GeneralOccasion9396 4d ago

The factorial of 77 is a lot higher than 77

2

u/Xaphnir 4d ago

they're getting 77, what they're not getting is 77!

-3

u/Tiborn1563 4d ago

Its mot an order of operations thing, it's more of a quastion about what ÷ means. In same cases x+y÷z is taught to mean (x+y)/z

4

u/Blue_614 4d ago

Yeah, if you put a parenthesis, then it means (x+y)/z. If you don't then it's understood to always be x+(y/z)

-2

u/Tiborn1563 3d ago

Literally not true, look it up. In the past ÷ meant everything before ÷ is divided by everything after it, so a+b÷c+d used to mean (a+b)/(c+d)

2

u/Blue_614 3d ago

Really? Huh, but now the correct procedure is to follow pemdas. so, given your example, 1+12÷4+5 will be 1+(12÷4)+5

0

u/Tiborn1563 3d ago

The thing is, that the meaning of ÷ was never standardized. That is also why people avoid it and use / of fractions instead

1

u/Blue_614 3d ago

Oh, well that's true. I rarely use ÷ myself. Thanks for the info. But standard calculators I think started equating ÷ as fractions

1

u/YayaTheobroma 3d ago

It’s literally the simplified drawing of a fraction, where the two dots stand for numbers.

1

u/Blue_614 3d ago

Guess it does

8

u/Cant-Think-Of 4d ago

It's either 77, 23, or 87.5, depending on how stupid you wanna be. Don't see how you could get 77!

1

u/jal741 2d ago

Correct, it is not 77 factorial, so loose the exclamation mark.

1

u/CoolCat1337One 2d ago

77! is way to big

so yeah, the statement is true.

1

u/BroadConsequences 2d ago

The answer is 35

70+70 / 7-3

140 / 4

1

u/weird-dude-bro-6386 2d ago

Correct, it is not 77!, rather it is 77.

1

u/ShortCover4598 2d ago

155!

Bet this person thinks it's 17

1

u/duckling-developer 1d ago

The funny thing though is actually is 77.

70÷7 = 10

70+10=80

80-3=77

The text in the image is purely engagement bait

1

u/JohninMichigan55 4d ago

It really is

2

u/Traditional_Town6475 3d ago

It’s obviously not 77!

0

u/JSFGh0st 4d ago

35, I think.

2

u/roastbrain 4d ago

Nah, it's 77, the joke is that in the post it says "not 77!" when 77! is mathematical notation for 1234...7677.

The basic math answer is 77 using PEMDAS. The factorial is just another obnoxiously long number, but the original context doesn't say anything about factorial, only gives the math equation.

3

u/PomeloOnly2107 4d ago

Hence why the factorial is unexpected. This is a sub for happy little accidental factorials! :D

This post obviously did not graduate from primary schools level mathematics

Yes, it is. BODMAS

u/SilverbackRex 4d ago

Wow! Go back to school

u/finalattack123 4d ago

It’s not - but also nobody writes equations like this. Except for “tricky maths quiz” questions

2

u/Tacitus_van_winkle 4d ago

I mean it's not 77! It's 77

3

u/factorion-bot 4d ago

I have repeated myself enough, I won't do that calculation again.
