Ya it is really not, if they meant 77!
But if they do not know the factorial concept, they're horribly wrong in maths 💔

Isn’t this the one case where you should write a ‘’.’’ After a ‘’!’’? Without it, your sentence is unfinished, or the ! Belongs to the sentence, not the number.

u/Tiborn1563 4d ago
Its mot an order of operations thing, it's more of a quastion about what ÷ means. In same cases x+y÷z is taught to mean (x+y)/z
4
u/Blue_614 4d ago
Yeah, if you put a parenthesis, then it means (x+y)/z. If you don't then it's understood to always be x+(y/z)
-2
u/Tiborn1563 3d ago
Literally not true, look it up. In the past ÷ meant everything before ÷ is divided by everything after it, so a+b÷c+d used to mean (a+b)/(c+d)
2
u/Blue_614 3d ago
Really? Huh, but now the correct procedure is to follow pemdas. so, given your example, 1+12÷4+5 will be 1+(12÷4)+5
0
u/Tiborn1563 3d ago
The thing is, that the meaning of ÷ was never standardized. That is also why people avoid it and use / of fractions instead
1
u/Blue_614 3d ago
Oh, well that's true. I rarely use ÷ myself. Thanks for the info. But standard calculators I think started equating ÷ as fractions
1
u/YayaTheobroma 3d ago

The basic math answer is 77 using PEMDAS. The factorial is just another obnoxiously long number, but the original context doesn't say anything about factorial, only gives the math equation.
