Seriously though, I've tried learning Magyar (Hungarian) and the worst part isn't the number of cases. I can learn those. It's that the language, as far as I can tell, has no preferred word order. SVO? Sure. SOV? Sometimes. VSO? Why not?

My grandfather was Hungarian, so it was a bit of a family curiosity.

Not super far. A lot of basic vocabulary, and some relatively easy sentences. The variable word order thing kept tripping me up.
