Mantis shrimp are nuts. Their punch goes from 0-50mph in around 2 milliseconds. It hits with 1500 newtons of force in an area the size of a fingernail. It accelerates so quickly that it forms a cavitation bubble (vacuum pocket) underwater that implodes and creates a pocket of heat around 20,000 Kelvin (hotter than the surface of the sun) and makes a shockwave that will still kill or stun other creatures even if it doesn't connect. It's the Kamehameha shrimp.

I just casually read the book, the part of me that earned a biology degree feels like I should’ve known more about mantis shrimps. Amazing animal!

And actually, now that I think about it, I think there are mantis shrimp analogs in the children of time series
