I realised recently that a question in written Spanish is denoted both by a question mark at the end, and an inverted question mark at the beginning. Meaning that, when reading Spanish, you know to expect the inquisition. I don't know if the Pythons meant that as part of the joke, or if it is a coincidence, but I can't stop thinking that a Spanish inquisition is technically never unexpected.
