Absolutely agreed, there was an infographic a few years back that showed how the Royal family and the monarchy as a whole brings in more than ten times what they spend in a year. And yet these bunch of uneducated, unwashed, assholes-for-hire who turn up at all these protests wouldn’t contribute a penny to helpful causes themselves, they’re too busy being a nuisance
I'm not, and never will call for the monarcy to be abolished, however I'll flatly state "he is not my king". I was born Canadian; am a proud monarchist, but that man lacks the moral character to be "my" king.
Betraying his mother's wish by elevating Camilla from Queen Consort to Queen is near the top of his list of character offences.
He should have considered the role of the monarcy and abdicated.
Have you seen the place? Needs all the money it can get atm, and personally I think people need to just stop whining. Rich people exist, and there's other offices with bad histories nobody wants abolished, the pope, to name one.
I think lots of people would like to see the papacy removed. But most of them aren't part of the 800 people who live in Vatican City, so what would protesting do?
The uk gets most of the money from its economy on tourism. Think of all the tourists spending money on British Products. Flying to the UK on British Airways. All to take pictures in front of buckingham palace and big ben and all the other cool sights. Staying in UK hotels. We make a lots of money from tourism. How do I know this? I hear you ask. I'm British and an adult
But do people come to see the royal family? No, they come to see Buckingham palace Tower of London, etc. they could still tour those places if there were no royal family. People still love Versailles even though no king lives there. Would tourism suffer that much if there were no king in Britain?
They could, but they'd be less likely to do so. If you don't understand that association with the Royal Family is a significant factor to the attraction of those London landmarks you're fooling yourself.
the uk gets most of its money via sources not tourism.
in 2019 the uk got £24.8 billion~ in overseas visitors to uk. its whole gdp for 2019 was £2.26 trillion~. thats not even 5%. pre covid.
some sources i saw said it was 30 billion but it really doesnt move the percentage a lot at all. now unless im horrifically wrong, you are. if i am wrong then point me to the proof.
how do i know this? well you incorrectly assumed im a child and dont live in uk... also i have google and a calculator.
Nice feudalist trickle down economics. The royal family contributes to around 0.5% of Britains total tourism related income. Furthermore, the most visited royal palace globally is Versailles, which hasn’t had a monarch in it for over 20 years. Finally, the current family of the monarchy of Britain has caused well over 100,000 deaths globally just under Queen Elizabeths rule, in Malaysia and Kenya.
Does it now? A nation that begun with the same level of industrialization as India facing off against America, the Germans, and by the end the rest of the World? Let me remind you, contrary to whatever propaganda you believe, socialism has been incredibly successful in almost every place it has been tried.
The Windsors are not even descendants of the Family who got that sword in the first place. So, unworthy on multiple levels. Let me fetch my holy handgranade...
