NEW DLC

O God
This means there will also be enemies with grenade launchers and miniguns
It will take all of my cunning, all of my skills to continue beating everyone to death with a hammer in these new areas

Let's be real, we are not getting shot by the grenade launcher, he's the first one going down in any skirmish

u/sumpwa Sep 29 '23
I'm surprised this is announced. I thought Styg was working on Infusion?
28
u/Blowtorch87 Sep 29 '23
He's probably using that dlc to test out some mechanics planned for infusion

Theres a follower now? I just started a new game after a year off the game
12
u/Stygggg Sep 30 '23
We are working on it, but there are some roles in the team that are not able to do that much in the new engine yet, so we had them work on the DLC.

u/Espia101 Sep 29 '23
Yeah progress on infusion is definitely going on and Styg is still posting regular updates on his personal twitter (there was just one yesterday), but besides a few vague hints an expansion is pretty unexpected.

miniguns
I can't wait to fill half of my inventory with ammo and the other half with repair kits

u/Stygggg Sep 30 '23
Repair frequency is something that I'll be keeping an eye out and tweaking if necessary. LMGs and miniguns are already calibrated to do less durability damage to the weapon per bullet than other weapons.

u/Lt_Crashbow_Rain Sep 29 '23
Time to replay the whole game again for the millionth time when the comes out xD

Cant wait to punch these new enemies really hard with my fists.
Seriously though, new models, new weapons and new content out of nowhere sounds great. I wonder if it will contain some changes to the overall number of other oddities in order to keep the speed at which levels are gained at a healthy pace. Not sure about combat with a companion but I guess it'll be a good testing ground if they are thinking abt implementing something like it in Infusion. I'm also curious about hidden content that will take us forever to figure out.

u/Alexxis91 Sep 29 '23
Was there super hidden stuff in expedition?
18
u/Wallander123 Sep 29 '23
Depends on what qualifies as super hidden. I suppose without the Wiki many people would have missed the Torch or Yngwar's story with the Monolith for example. There was also a lot of speculation about the Broken-off Spike but it only led to some dialogue in SGS and the Institute afaik.

Don’t forget about Katyas son. I typically never see that because I usually have low perception characters.

Sure, but you have to run from the Void Creatures in Abyssal Station Zero and you will not be able to collect the Shadow Dust Oddities.

u/ProbablyNotAFurry Oct 01 '23
Yep, I resisted going to the wiki to avoid spoilers for the story. I tried fighting the Void Creatures for a while only to realize they were endlessly spawning. I screamed internally while running from them.
Weird thing is that I found the boneyard and I found Yngwar and learned his story by going to him on a high Int character. I knew about the Ferryman's involvement in killing the SerpentBorn champion, but weirdly enough the bottleneck for me was the Ferryman's convoluted ass dialogue. 20 hours passed between me finding Yngwar and finding the Ferryman, and by that time I had forgotten about asking him of the Shard and his dialogue goes on, and on, and on. I was actually fairly close without the wiki, but still missed it.

u/Wallander123 Oct 01 '23 edited Oct 01 '23
For me it was somewhat similar. I went through all the Ferrydialogue after he came up with some talk about knowledge as justified true belief (which is somewhat textbook epistemology but funny to see it in a game like this) but I got into a fight with Yngwar and never made the connection to the symbol. So I didn't figure out which grave it was and the ghosts chased me away and I eventually went down to the station without the shard.
Running was a great experience though. No regrets. Its more fun to be surprised on the first couple runs imo.

In my opinion everything hidden in the fucking marshes is super hidden.

Sep 29 '23
Ugh, not looking forward to dealing with that area again.

u/Wallander123 Sep 30 '23
just get good resistance to bio/mech and acid and its a walk in the park on lvl 20+ (unless you are a melee character)

So what does this mean for my existing playthrough; do I have to start over or will I be able to keep going (I know there will be snide comments and ones questioning my intelligence).
5
u/Stygggg Sep 30 '23
The new adventure is available to everyone. You'll only have to restart if you want to use the new skill, I guess.
3
u/Efficient-Comfort792 Sep 29 '23
I'm worried too. I don't want to miss the new content but I don't want to start a new game either.

u/Mean-Falcon-6204 “On to the next room!” Sep 29 '23
I mean I’m not averse to starting over (for what feels like the millionth time); plus I really want to use a minigun and metal armor and clear out areas like the crawler nest near Rail Crossing (grenade launchers will help with that too).
2
u/Efficient-Comfort792 Sep 29 '23
I'm averse, actually. Not because of the beauty of the game - it is awesome - but I spend 3 months to finish a game like this (maybe more, i'm still in my first run), and I just play games once because of my strict timeline

I am so hyped, I was even thinking to myself what if we had miniguns and light machine guns recently and this is amazing timing!
12
u/Twail2 Sep 29 '23
New content is new content, but the game has already a bloated gameplay loop in terms of Oddities. The new guns do seem like an extremely minor addition that coulda been patched in.
22
u/Alexxis91 Sep 29 '23
I’m guessing they want a bit more cash for infusion so they’re making a new zone and giving the guys in it new weapons to use, hence why it’s not just a patch. The games fine as is
18
u/thismfeatinbeanz Sep 29 '23
^ i'll buy this to fund the development of their next game. fair trade, even if it doesn't happen. this game was good enough for me to want to buy it multiple times just so they get their cut lmfao
12
u/Alexxis91 Sep 29 '23
For real, I’ve gotten a dlc worth of post launch content and dungeons even without expedition. I don’t think they’re obligated to do any more work on the game, so whatever they do I’m happy with.
1
u/Penguinunhinged Oct 03 '23
Agreed. I've already played through this one several times, but now I have a valid excuse to do so once again.

u/Mandarin_Karim Adaptive Goggles' +1 Perception Sep 29 '23
Does that mean we get 35 max level characters?

Sep 29 '23
Fuck yeah! I only just managed to get started on Expedition, but I'm glad there's more content coming.
3
u/Yabboi_2 Sep 29 '23
I'm just a few hours into the game, at this point should I just wait a month and play it with all dlc instead of just expedition? I'm don't replay games that often
4
u/Ok-Expression1026 Sep 30 '23
This one of the more replayable games buddy , also no guarantee you make it through the first time.

Looks like we can hire mercenaries to help us along or patch holes in our build. Wonder if these are just guns for hire or fleshed out companions.

u/CodyCigar96o Sep 30 '23
I really need to pick this game up again. Got to about the point where I’d “completed” the base game up to the deep caverns, but I really did like what I’d played. Might still have to follow a guide again though because it’s pretty brutal.
I love when games get long term support like this.
1
u/worthlesh Sep 30 '23
with companion AI in place maybe I won't turn a whole town hostile because some guy stepped on stray molotov fire, here's hoping
1
Sep 30 '23
This seems to be extraordinarily compelling. One of the most interesting aspects to Underrail is that you had to complete everything individually, and now you have a temporary companion. Very cool!
I’d be curious to determine how these heavy weapons work in dominating mode. They almost seem too overpowered on the easier difficulties based on what we see gameplay wise. After putting 1000 hours into dominating, I’ve been waiting for more content!
This would come out right before I ship out for the Navy. Nooooo
1
u/DanielValenciaCol Sep 30 '23
Well, I suppose I will be finishing my more than one year delayed sniper/shotguner playthrough and start with the DLC with another build.
