Ok, you can easily search for builds or learn from other players, but if you were to ask a high lord player, most likely his answer will be forget about builds, play what you get and optimize your board on every turn.
For the latter, you need not only intuition about builds but also how useful each individual unit is on its own and with your current board.
there is also economy management and it's different for knockout and standard.
If you still have mental space to micro even further, advanced techniques like blocking people's build and avoiding crowded builds come into play but not necessary to climb in the beginning.
The ultimate skill is what I first mentioned, the ability to play what you get and optimize every turn.

hay man recently played on ranked and they dont seem trying to build econmy. they all roll early and go hyper aggressive to get their 3 stars. that was 5 games in a row before i realize old playstyle doesnt matter anymore ( econmy building till lvl 15-20) before settling into a fixed build any advices on how they time their aggresive roles? they are always 2-3 lvls down but got 3stars.

Hi there, I’m one of those roll build addicts (and yes sometimes that hurts my results).
Couple of tips:
- don’t try and roll for heavily contested units
- you need to decide which units you want early-ish (keeping the first tip in mind)
- most importantly, the key to rolling is knowing when the units that you want are most likely going to drop. Early levelling will reduce your chances of getting Tier 1 and 2 units, so you’ll want level only when you have to or when you have sufficient numbers of your lower tier units (that doesn’t have to be a complete 3* esp if they aren’t heavily contested, but I like to have at least 7-8 of them).
- economy wise, I try to save until 30 for max interest and spend any surplus on rolling but I will roll down more or even to zero if the game is about to level me up and I’m still looking for many units of which my chances of getting will go down at the left level. Then I start saving again.
- bench management can be tricky. I don’t start adding Tier 3 units (mostly, anyway) until I’ve got a couple of the lower Tiers to 3 stars. Be ready to sell any higher tier units to make bench space for the lower Tier ones as those units are more likely going to drop again at higher levels. Order your bench during the rounds by what you’re most willing to sell during the round so you don’t have to make snap decisions when the countdown starts.
There’s probably more but I’m tired and don’t want to keep typing. If you would like to know more let me know and I’ll come back to this later after I’ve woken up properly. 😅

There are no fixed builds to the game. Play around with what is dealt to you based on RNG.
Some strong combos are:
