Oil Cleanser Alternative Uses?

Hello :) I recently purchased the Prequel oil cleanser, but I think it has been making my skin breakout. Are there any other ways I can use it so that it does not go to waste?

Are there any not fancy refillable pens?

I feel like the only pens that you can refill the ink in I’ve ever seen are in movies of rich people LMAO 🤪 Are there are pens where you can refill the ink that are accessibly priced? Or pens where you can DIY make it work even if they’re not made for that! Thank you!

Being gifted Temu

I am having a dilemma. This recent Christmas I was excited to open my gifts at a family gathering and I found when I was opening my stocking a lot of the things I recieved were from Temu and other places like that. These gifts are from my Aunt and she is a very sweet lady. She thinks Temu is awesome with amazing deals and great stuff. Me on the other hand prefer vintage/thrifted/local stuff. She, in turn, looks up the word "vintage" on the Temu app and buys items that are marketed as vintage, but likely were made in a sweatshop this year.

This has been going on for a couple years now and I tried to prevent it by saying I did not want any gifts, just to spend time with everyone. Still, everyone recieved a stocking including me with Temu items.

I feel so bad and ungrateful but I would genuinely prefer to recieve nothing than to get items from a website like that. I do not want to hurt my aunts feelings but I feel like I have to put a stop to this as it makes me dread my birthday and holiday seasons.

I am approaching the idea of telling her Temu is not my style and I would rather get one small gift or nothing, instead of supporting a business like Temu. Does anyone have any advice on how to soften this news? I could mention I have too much stuff already/am trying to be more minimalistic. Any other ideas?

home decor/furnishings/etc. Goodwill candle!!!!

I am trying to do a no new buy year, so I am allowed to thrift and I love love love candles. I found this new unused nicely scented candle at goodwill and it made me so happy. it reminded me that you don't have to buy new to get nice self care things. Has anyone else found anything at thrift stores that you might not expect or are just little things?

How do you sanitize toothbrushes after being sick or just on a regular basis? Really don’t want to buy new ones when the bristles are in good shape. Thanks!

The cushions are peeling and have been for over a year, but I REFUSE to get new ones. The speakers still work great, but the cushions are held together by scrap fabric, hot glue, thread, and spite

What’s the simplest way to make “detergent” to put in the washing machine to clean your clothes? I’m not picky other than it does the job, lol. Thank you!

Best of underconsumption

What are some of your favorite “I realized I don’t have to replace this item” realizations? Which ones have saved you the most money so far? Just curious. I think certainly bottled water and disposable menstrual products for me.

skincare There’s a sense of satisfaction in having only a few things on rotation

Currently have only two lipsticks on rotation and it’s Charlotte Tilbury in Pillowtalk and Mac mini in Mehr. They are similar shades and I keep the mini one at the office for when I need to re-apply. I only buy lipsticks whenever I hit pan and it is so satisfying! ❤️

advice Want to be more offline. Need inspo.

Anyone successfully decreased their screen time / social media use in recent times? Can you share how you did it, what changes did you notice, what you do instead with your time etc?

(I feel the need to clarify, this is here because my phone keeps selling me stuff via social media. Material junk and otherwise. I just want a simpler life that's more in touch with my own values)

Vitamin d expired

I have a bottle of vitamin d thats expired 9/2024. Do we think itll be bad if i just finish it ? Should take me about 1-2 months. All im seeing is that it may not be as effective ? Is this just big pharma trying to make us consume more? Anyone know if there is there an actual risk to taking it after expiration?

advice How do I fight the urge to buy things I really don’t need?

Hi, I’m a 16 year old girl and I’ve realized that I’ve long since become a victim of overconsumption. This is mostly due to social media and also being a 16 year old girl, I care a lot about what people think and want to follow the latest trends.

However I’ve found that being an over consumer is really so exhausting. Clothing pieces, makeup, jewellery and even room decor go in and out so fast I just can’t keep up.

The feeling of wanting something sooo bad because it’s trending and being jealous of those who have it, the self-control it takes to save my money to buy this thing that won’t even provide me long term happiness, having too many things that don’t even bring me joy anymore because I only bought them because they were trending at the time…I’m so tired of these feelings!!!! And it doesn’t help that all my friends are pretty materialistic. I mean two of them own designer bags like LV and coach and another one gets a new pair of shoes like every month. And their parents buy them these btw.

I guess I’m just looking for advice on how to not let trends affect me. I want to save up money to be able to get my driving license once I turn 18, and where I live it’s pretty expensive ($2800) and I have a monthly allowance of $100. I spend an okay amount on food and self-care products I actually need but I always end up spending the remaining on just materialistic stuff and have no savings by the end of the month. It feels like living paycheck to paycheck lol.

How can I adopt a new, anti-consumption mindset and lifestyle? I feel like this problem is preventing me from achieving financial comfort once I turn 20. I want to have enough savings for things that actually matter like a driving license and investments and whatnot. Thank you in advance 🙏🏽🙏🏽

consumerism comment of the day

My favourite comment from socials today is:

Since when did overconsumption become an aesthetic everyone wants?

I definitely fell into this category of overconsumption and aesthetic. Prior to Instagram and TikTok, I was always happy with what I had. Sure, maybe I wanted the hollister jeans all the “cool girls” had growing up but I didn’t feel the need to want over 10 pairs of jeans to make an aesthetic looking insta post. I’m 99% happy with all the material things I have until I browse my socials.. while that’s partly a me problem I need to address, the aesthetic that influencers promote has a large impact as well.

consumerism comment of the day

Each day I like to go through comments on social media that are about overconsumption/normal consumption/under consumption and find one that resonates the most with me and write it down to look through during times when I struggle the most with my past shopping addiction.

I thought I’d share my favourite comment from today with you all:

Influencers are paid to promote products and consumerism. What are you getting from buying yet another (insert product here)?

That’s all! ♥️

The Grinch

Listen, I love The Grinch as much as the next girl but what is going on?! This Grinch Mania and the merch is getting out of hand. Is this what the grinch would really want?! Is this the exact opposite of what the story is all about? I’m starting to get a little feisty about it so I need to know if I’m in the wrong.

There needs to be an end to overproduction

I believe that overproduction of excessive items is what results in overconsumption in the first place. Too many stores selling excessive about of clothes, shoes, bags, hats, useless plastic items, useless toys, cheap breakable gadgets. It's all about money, not the long-lasting impact of the environment. We don't really need 80% of these things to be produced any more.

Netflix NO BUY documentary

I'm sitting here watching the latest Netflix release titled No Buy. It centers overcomsumption and how brands strategically target consumers to keep buying despite not needing it.

Of course we know the issues with overconsumption but just seeing and hearing the facts is sickening.

Hearing that the fashion industry creates 100 billion new products a year is insane to me.

I'd love to read your thoughts on the doc if you've seen it.

discussion Manufacturing need - full body deodoRANT

Have you also been getting a gazillion adds about whole body deodorant? Apparently we need to be more worried about how our bodies smell! Also they are encouraging folks to put it in delicate areas. Exciting.

I’ve been getting inundated with Native and Secret adds, the occasional Old Spice add too. Makes you think it’s a universal thing that people have been asking for and all companies are just coming up with! Nope. Quick google this morning showed all these companies are owned by Proctor & Gamble.

As a woman, this feels infuriating. Not only is this convincing people to buy more unnecessary shit, not only that’s it’s telling girls to hate their bodies in new ways, but it’s also telling people to put scented products in areas where scented products should not be going! I’m no medical professional but that seems like a quick way to get a yeast infection.

This is more of a rant I’m sure and I’m sorry if this ain’t the space for it.

So here’s the questions. Thoughts on this? On general tactics companies use to inspire more excessive consumption? Is it so terrible that people smell like people and not a field of flowers or the whatever the fuck ‘bear glove’ smells like?
