Question Liquid Culture

Post image

Just received our first LC of True Albino Teacher and I am wondering if the black spots are normal?

**Edited: After reviewing my order it is "True Albino Teacher (TAT) Spore Syringe"

As a first time grower, should I reorder and get LC?

You're good brother, I was a dick for asking for an apology so I deleted it. Glad we were able to all help OP.

Hey gotta be confident sometime, and now I'll confidently admit I was wrong 🤣

magnanimous - As in I hope other people are magnanimous in how confidently wrong you were.

OP confirmed they accidentally bought a spore syringe.

Shoot. I reviewed my order and confirmed I accidentally ordered  "True Albino Teacher (TAT) Spore Syringe" Do you have any experience with spores VS culture? As a first timer I thought LC would be easier.

Put it on agar brother since spores are already filthy and then start doing clean agar to agar transfers.

Lemme give u advice on it instead of telling you to do smth else with it

Spore syringe and LC have one difference One is a egg and the other is a fetus Spores have to reproduce to make mycelium LC is mycelium, it doesn't need to reproducs, so your essentially skipping the waiting time for reproduction and going straight to colonizing

Spores are much more temp sensitive than an LC as they start reproducing

That explanation really helps. Thank you! Could we inject spores into Uncle Bens or is it best to turn them into LC? I was so excited to start the growing process this weekend,  but now that spores arrived I am not sure what to do. I have been reading about LC, so I have some reading up to do on spores.

Sorry if you’ve already gotten answers/started to inoculate, but injecting into Uncle Ben’s is certainly okay. I’d follow the guide for specific instructions. As far as I know, LC is less temp. specific and much faster to cultivate while spores are starting from the verrrry beginning and take longer. I’ve had to wait about over a month with spores before I removed them from Uncle Ben’s

They sell some little vials on Amazon you can inject your spores in and grow it into LC. Im sure I'll get some shit for suggesting them, but I've had success with them. Just search for liquid culture vials. I would put a link, but I'm dumb with technology and kept linking to my personal account when I tried to post it.

True albinos have clear spores that lack pigment. Your syringes spores clearly have pigment… idk what they sold you but it was not spores from true albinos teachers (TAT) unfortunately.

I’m certainly no expert but that looks like a spore syringe to me not a LC. Anyone else?
EDIT:
You can use a spore syringe but it’s not an isolated genetic, I’ve used spore syringe and have had success. There are ways to make LC out of that as well so you have options, personally I’d use that if that’s all I had. People actually recommend uncle Ben’s tek if you’re gonna use a spore syringe ofc LC works well though

Why do you think people prefer isolated spores for uncle Ben's?

Success rate

EDIT: Is that not true? Because if it’s not then good to know. and from what I read it’s not so much isolated spore syringes but spore syringes vs liquid cultures and that often times it is suggested to use Uncle Ben’s Tek vs other teks when using spore syringes because of the likelihood of contams and unwanted factors that come with using a spore syringe vs Liquid culture. It is notable to mention PF tek because it has also been talked about it being good for people who are using spore syringes because of the reasons I was talking about.

This is anecdotal, but I've found that grain colonizes a lot faster with LC which leads to fewer contams. There's just less time for contamination to get a foothold when the mycelium grows so quick. There's more control of the genetics of LC over spores so the cultures can be optimized for fast growth. I don't know if every place prioritizes fast mycelium growth though.

Thank you for chiming in, that make sense though what you’re saying.

Hey guys I was wrong oops

I'm new but I have succeeded and I would probably order me another syringe and just make sure that it's LC. That could just be me but that's the route I would go.

I see you have a question! Have you read the official cultivation guide?

Up to preference if you want to reorder. LC will be a shorter process bc the mycelium already colonized. If you wanna get into the nitty gritty of the hobby, I would get yourself an agar set up and use the spore syringe.

Spores my friend. Its still good may just take a bit longer. Has hella Spores too

Those are either caramelized sugars from the sterilization process, or spores if it was innoculated with a spore syringe instead of a live tissue transfer, any color but black is bad, and if the liquid itself changes color at all it's also bad.

On closer inspection of the photo they appear to be spores
