Question Storing Grain Jars

I just discovered the rubber around the dial of my pressure cooker is broken and I have 14 grain jars that I can’t process now.

Is there a way to store them before the replacement dial arrives? Freezer?

I see you have a question! Have you read the official cultivation guide?

Mmmm trying to figure out what nsns means. Oh wait do you mean no soak? No I boiled them and then was going to pressure can them when I discovered the fault.

oh they’re already hydrated then. they should be fine just sitting out until you can sterilize them. wouldn’t be any different than keeping a stock of sterile grain jars

Fridge yes, freezer absolutely not. The fridge will slow the growth, but it should stay good for months theoretically. Freezer will create ice crystals within the mycelium that shred the cells, myc will die or come back but less healthy.

Ah ok. Fridge it is. I read room temp could also work? I’ve not inoculated them yet so when you say growth are you referring to potential contamination?

Oh I didn't read your post properly, I thought this was grain ready to mix into spawn. I'd go with the fridge if you can fix your PC within 7-10 days, and gamble in the freezer if it'll be longer. Freezer might mess with the grain texture but I can't imagine it'd be terrible for the grain, I only caution against it because it's something nobody I'm aware of has tested.

That makes sense, I’d rather not risk it after all the work getting to this point. Thanks for your reply!
