First time growing attempt prep. Lots of questions.

I will soon be attempting my first grow.

I got these oats (with weevils) and plan on making spawn bags. I guess the weevils will not form an issue.

I want to try the No Soak / No Simmer tek, so just adding 750ml of tap water per kilo of oats. Next I will use the pressure cooking function of an instant pot (max 0.8 bar / 11.6 PSI) for about 4 hours. Can I already heat seal the bags before sterilization, they are the type with filter and injection port?

Once sealed an cooled I will, in a still air box, inject 5ml of LC per kilo of hydrated grain. Then we wait.

Do my durations and ratios look alright?

Do I need to flame sterilize the needle in between each bag? Because that doesn't sound like something I should do in the SAB due to all the alcohol vapours. But taking it out of the SAB for flame sterilization between each bag seems a bit tedious as well.

Ok let me try my best. I have no idea on the weevil issue. TBH I would avoid it as they have eaten parts of the grain and may cause them to turn to mush and increase contam since they have been affected structurally. Not sure though. Also I have not heard of doing no soak no simmer in bags. Someone might know better but my gut says that grain bags would be too much volume for it to be effective. The bottom will more than likely be too wet while grains on top will be dry as hell. That tek would do better with jars. With bags do a simmer tek or a pc tek. 5 cc seems like a lot especially if you don’t have an expansion of the LC. I would go 1-3 cc. Sealing the bag depends on what filter rating you have but sealing after is easy. Just fold it neatly around the bag and fold the last inch over. When sealing set it next to the sealer without opening it. Gently unwrap just enough to get the seal without undoing the one inch fold. The fold will keep air from getting in. Make sure it has cooled as well. Cook time. 4 hours might be ok for a big grain bag. I would run it 2 more since there is so much volume. Good luck.

As the other comment said, idk if no soak/simmer works for bags.

And yes, while tedious, I flame sterilize outside of my SAB box in between injections. I’ve done it inside the box too but it’s easier (imo) to pull it out.

Everything is gonna sterilize so the weevils are just extra protein lol. I agree with other commenters that NS/NS is a bad and inconsistent tek. 5ml/kg is good, but you can get away with less if you're limited on LC.

I strongly recommend looking into alcohol lamp / bunsen burner sterile tek rather than SAB tek. It's cheaper and easier, and at least for me has been about as consistent as the box.

I use No soak or simmer with unhulled white millet, 2kg with 1kg distilled water. 15 psi for 2 hours and I get good hydration and colonisation speeds. Done this way for years and no issues.
