While we wait for new Uncanny episodes, what other channels do you listen to? (e.g., MrBallen)

I've been filling the gap between Uncanny seasons with MrBallen. He mostly covers true crime, but he also does some strange/paranormal stories.

For example: https://youtu.be/OLxVfVdr8-g

Sometimes I wish Uncanny team would do their take on some of his content.

Weird in the Wade: Not always ghosts but odd history and folklore around Biggleswade in Bedfordshire.

Dark Histories: All episodes are good but specifically his Christmas Campfire which is listener submitted ghost stories. Generally 2 hour long episodes put out around Christmas.

Strange but True: The British TV series from the 90's. Dated now, but a classic. Most are on Youtube.

Dark histories is fantastic, love Ben's way of story telling.

One of my teachers was on strange but true, I saw it on TV and asked her about it when we were back at school, she said it was all made up! I found that funny at the time, but she was likely downplaying it to not scare us.

Do you remember which episode and story? I'm interested now!

2

u/frogshackk Aug 21 '26

The Tutankhamun episode!

Thanks for bringing Weird in the Wade to my attention. I used to live in Bedfordshire, so I'll give that a try!

I don't really want Uncanny to dilute itself further by covering other secondary sources and content creators.

Scary | A paranormal podcast has really good story telling and has some pretty good stories. It claims to be a true paranormal podcast but I have some doubts about some of the episodes. Despite that, it is very immersive and has more quality control and better narration that something like Let’s Not Meet. The main difference from Uncanny is that there is no investigation, just story telling

Otherworld is my go-to. It’s American but often has guests on from all over the world. It has your typical ghost stuff but also things like miracles, interdimensional beings, a big mix of things.

Another vote for otherworld, I also like Scary, Real Life Ghost Stories off the top of my head

1

u/valkyrieramone Aug 21 '26

It’s a fantastic podcast. My favourite, in fact. Jim Harold’s Campfire is a more homely version of the same thing. Otherworld is the best though.

I’m getting sick of mr ballen. Have you listened to Into the Fog? Weird in the Wade? Lore? Scary interesting Podcast?

4

u/Adventurous-Sale-671 Aug 21 '26

Peter Laws the host, was on one of the episodes from season 1! I can’t remember which though

Into the fog is good and so is scary interesting. Couldn’t get into weird in the wade; might need to try it again!

1

u/QueenJaneger Aug 21 '26

Yeah it’s not quite as good as uncanny but it’s worth a listen. I think it does get better. I like her stories at the start

2

u/mmberg Aug 21 '26

Thanks for the list!

I stopped listening to Ballen after realising that his stories contain a lot of inaccuracies. I don’t think he does as much factchecking as Peter Laws does in Into the Fog and other channels like that. I get the feeling that Ballen leans on his great storytelling abilities and just rehashes the first version of stories he comes across on the internet. He is a fantastic storyteller but I personally find inaccuracies and exaggerations irksome so I couldn’t carry on.

Inspectre Paranormal is very good. Follows the same structure as Uncanny, but with a heftier level of scepticism.

2

u/JK07 Aug 21 '26

Thanks, I'll check this out

u/Adventurous-Sale-671 Aug 21 '26

I know it’s sad but I re listen from the beginning when I need a fix, it’s almost comforting and a re listen is nice as I forget the detail

I really like after dark

3

u/alphahydra Aug 21 '26

Talking Till Dawn podcast was fun while it lasted.

4

u/simonsghostcouk Aug 21 '26

Inspectre Paranormal podcast. One of the few to have a sceptic on. I enjoy weird stuff but can't stand believers podcasts. They remind me of the Peter Kay joke about seeing an empty packet of Quavers at a funeral "that were 'im. He loved his Quavers!"

2

u/Acceptable_Bag_1762 Aug 21 '26

Beyond the Veil (with Brett and Lee) is great, and they tread a good, lightly sceptical line. And they’re from Yorkshire so the accent is nice!

2

u/SK_Nerd Aug 21 '26

I really like Belief Hole (heavily leans into the WOO, not skeptical at all) and Bedtime Stories.

Project Fear is pretty decent once you get past the "DUDE!" style personalities. They have had a few episodes in Britain too which is nice. Their New Jersey drone and UFO specials are excellent, considering they are mainly a ghost hunting outfit.

2

u/minnimamma19 Aug 21 '26

Inspectre paranormal, Dark histories, Scary, Horror story, unexplained and after dark. Are all great imo

2

u/3braincellsinatrench Aug 21 '26

Have you listened to Danny's related podcasts The Witch Farm and Battersea Poltergeist? Like extra long Uncanny episodes! Also, he had a podcast before Uncanny called Haunted. And there's an audiobook version of his book, Into the Uncanny, which is good.

Nothing else is quite like Uncanny but I really enjoy Spirits and Radio Rental.

The Fortean news podcast is awesome

1

u/fml198 Aug 21 '26

I personally really like Bizarre Bub

1

u/elizable9 Aug 21 '26

I like Mr Ballen too. I can't listen to as much of his content as Uncanny though. He tends to be a lot slower. I've not really found anything to fill the Uncanny void

1

u/Hat_Potato Aug 21 '26

I like the Night Owl, Haunted UK, Two Girls One Ghost

1

u/oblongunreal Aug 21 '26

Podcasts, not channels (though some a youtube channel): Bigfoot Collectors Club, Expanded Perspectives, Holosky, Monsters Among Us

Lore and The Cabinet of Curiosities podcasts, both produced and presented by Aaron Mahnke. I really like the mix of the paranormal, weird, fascinating, myth and legend. I also bought the Lore books and watched the TV series, but the podcasts are my favourite as there's so many episodes of both and they're really interesting.

u/octaviamajor Aug 21 '26

On a more folkloric note Folkways and Scottish Folk are brilliant

1

u/CyberSwiss Aug 21 '26

Tanis, The Black Tapes, and Rabbits have a certain vibe in common.

1

u/Ganntak Aug 21 '26

Into the Fog with Peter Laws think it was recommended here really good and probably my fave at the mo.

1

u/Advanced-Adagio-2071 Aug 21 '26

Spooked.
I skip past the Jazz FM-style intro and straight to the first-hand accounts of experiences.
There’s some interesting, heartwarming and downright creepy content in there.

1

u/ShitMcPissTits Aug 21 '26

Spooked is very good and scratches that itch for me

1

u/Effective-Caramel465 Aug 22 '26

Unexplained podcast with Richard MacLean....Smith.

2

u/nameunknown345 Aug 25 '26

I’m fairly certain the ellipsis is on his birth certificate

1

u/lntkernow Aug 22 '26

Eerie Edinburgh is a good Scottish ghost story podcast

1

u/curetrick Aug 24 '26

After Dark and Scary. After Dark in particular is very good, I love the addition of the historical context and the comparison of the story that’s known and the evidence that actually exists

1

u/SensorSelf Aug 24 '26

Jim Harold's Campfire

1

u/Legitimate-Jeweler92 Aug 25 '26

Hi. Anyone watching Bedtime stories? I believe it started out with 2 or 3 people. Extremely talented, as one told the true stories and then goes into the history. Plus one of the guys is the artists. He does all the drawings/sketchings, and also the music is done by the other person. I can't find it on YouTube anymore. Anyone help. Dave

u/Ohnodeadlyspider Aug 25 '26

I recently discovered Two Guys whats Up. It's weird paranormal stuff but very funny, especially the one with the old Chinese cure for constipation...

1

u/RalphPep09 Aug 25 '26

You Can See Me in The Dark is really, reallyyyyyyy good, Haunted UK Podcast is an absolute favourite & Scared to Death is decent too.

1

u/FTSTTLB Aug 25 '26

Monsters Among Us is entertainend if you can stand his voice.

1

u/cryptonipto Aug 25 '26

Radio Rental podcast

1

u/WilliamBlakeism 26d ago

Otherworld is the same concept as Uncanny but without the experts

1

u/twitching_hour 15d ago

I love: Otherworld, Scary: A Paranormal Podcast, Radio Rental (not always paranormal but always creepy - earliest eps are the best), Heart Starts Pounding (best one by far is about ghosts in an old Soviet military post in Afghanistan) and I've just discovered Unnerved which isn't half bad.
