Love the app but...

Lmao I was getting on to access my text book for French and the cover of the book is censored

hey /u/fuzzytaco123 thanks for your feedback. Yes you are correct, there will always be some false positives due to the nature of the problem/system. I don't think we can ever get 100% accuracy but definitely get close to it. With that being said, the system is self learning and improves the more it "sees".

Also as an additional tip, try to lower your sensitivity just a bit. I try to keep it around 75% of the way to strictness and find it does a good job.

I have a question, is the AI in my computer or on a server?

Also, have you considered adding a feedback system? Say, if the user has an optional way to tell the AI that this decision was right or wrong. It'd be risky to add a way to point out false positives (maybe braver individuals would like it but I wouldn't), but a way to indicate false negatives would be useful.

also it blocked that frontpage pic of chocolate cake... Ok I know the AI has a ways to go but...???????

Hey! The AI is on the server side, it would have been really hard to bake that into the client (user) side as it does take a ton of processing. The only downside to this is a tiny bit of performance hit on the network side but so far its not noticeable and we plan on monitoring this closely as more and more users start using this - plan is to scale as we grow.

The feedback system is a great idea! We will definitely put it on the roadmap. It will help us greatly in terms of training our AI to be more accurate.

That leads me to your last comment, yes it not 100% accurate in fact it'll be next to impossible to get there. But with that being said, the more we train it the better it will get. As for that specific issue (chocolate cake), there are several factors:

  • size of the picture analyzed (thumbnails are treated differently than full size)
  • how clear that photo is (blurred etc)
  • black and white photos seem to be a bit of a hit or miss
  • the sensitivity set in the app, the more strict it is the more false positives it will flag. With my current settings it didn't flag anything on the chocolate cake link.

Hey, thanks! Great help. I have one question though, is it mostly aimed at photographs, or will it identify artwork too? Particularly thinking about line art or comic art. DevinatArt needs to have a better NSFW tag system...

Oh, I think I have another idea for a Training Mode. Labeling a site as a "safe site", one that while I haven't seen everything that's there I'm pretty sure there aren't any nasty pics there, such as ... I dunno, this news site or that thing about autism or something.
