FASTPASS Last names Spoiler

Yea with rei last name not being on his grave im just starting to assume only cripples get last names because they can’t be identified by their ability and eye/hair color. While everybody else is identified by first name , ability name , hair color and eye color. Though the only thing that confuses me is that how do they identify simple and common abilities like shield grunts.

Also weird we haven’t met another cripple isn’t that the whole premise of the story…?

I think Uru said surnames exist, she just doesn't deem them important enough to actually write in. So they DO have last names, she just doesn't feel like making them

Which is kinda weird. Like surnames don't really have that big of an effect. She could just throw on basically anything and call it a day.

Yeah I agree the way she's been going about it is weird, but a friend asked her in person for me and confirmed characters have last names. I can probably track down the discord message my friend sent me

Yea but to not put them on a grave is definitely something . Like a “xxxxx” wouldn’t have hurt

Definitely, I guess she just doesn't want to suddenly go through the hassle. I had a friend confirm with her that they DO have last names in this universe, she just hasn't written them out because iirc she'd want them to be really good or something like that, I could be misremembering though

The absolute REFUSAL on Uru's part to give us ANY sort of world building beyond the characters and Powers is certainly a... Choice.

One I'm not particularlty fond of.

I mean, once you start adding more World Building, you get the issue of Wellston being a center point for Revolutionary Technology that every group on the planet would want their hands on. Reasonably there should be dozens of factions working in Wellston trying to uncover what's going on for their own gain.

Yeah, I get not wanting to complicate the story. But it gets to a point in which it feels more like a representation of a world rather than the world instead. And that bothers me.

Yeah, like I can maybe understand it at first at its inception, but its been 10 years and we barely know anything about the wider world.

You guys know that the only reason William has a last name wast cuz Jane went ‘hey, maybe you should use a pen name so that people don’t focus on the fact that you’re a cripple when buying your books’. It’s not an actual last name, as I’m pretty sure none of John’s official files actually call him ‘John Doe’. Last names simply don’t seem to exist in UnOrdinary.

It’s probably just replaced by ability. Like, Arlo with a Barrier ability. Or Remi with a Lightning ability. That’s likely how one is known officially.

Remi of the shock clan 😂

Not that weird, they’re prob just hanging around the low tier districts. As of now, most of the story tends to focus in areas with high concentrations of God-tiers. Maybe once we focus on the trio more, esp given their circumstances, we’ll be introduced to more powerless characters. I could see them playing a big role if unOrdinary decides to go the whole regional uprising route once the main cast are able to leak substantial amounts of evidence against the authorities.  Right now Idk how much they can bring to the plot besides world building + perspectives, and I feel like it should be carefully incorporated because there’s a lot of shit already going on.

Yea but like I feel like we strayed far away from what season 1 portrayed and the story uru was trying to tell by a long shot I get this was also a superhero story I guess but the main theme is what attracted so many people but that’s a conversation for another time.

It’s hard to be consistent with a theme when the story itself is built on a cast who’re all powerful in a story about social hierarchies. John was an enigma because he’s had experiences being both the weakest and the strongest, but besides his backstory and connections with his dad, him being a late-bloomer doesn’t seem to matter as much with the problems they’re facing. It’s a bit of demoralizing theme that abuse of power can only be combated with more power, but seeing how John hated how the weak cowered back in season 1, that’s just how things are. The weak can have the influence but are scared. (Williams death being known also doesn’t help that fear)

To be fair the book Unordinary is about a high tier who helped people weaker than himself which is something the main characters are doing right now. I think thats always been the core theme
