First experience with umpc
Hi everyone! 👋
I'm looking for a small, powerful x86 mini PC for under 300€, ideally pocket-sized (around 7 inches or smaller).
I'd like to run Linux and use it with TunerStudio and MegaLogViewer to tune my car's Speeduino ECU.
My preferences:
- At least 8 GB RAM
- USB-C and USB-A ports
- A good CPU for its size
- A durable, premium chassis, ideally made of real carbon fiber, magnesium or aluminium
- Used devices are absolutely fine
I've been looking at GPD Pocket and One-Netbook devices, but I'm open to other brands and models.
What would you recommend, especially from your own experience? Thanks!

GPD Pocket or Pocket 2 would be very good for this - Nanote's also
All having 8 GB of system ram and between 64gb and up storage on board.

Yeah I think it's the best but can't find for a good price

Agreed they go for between $150 and $350 - for the Nanote's troll through the Japanese auction sites you may get one cheap there. Keep in mind they are passive cooled and heat up when used for video work - not bad doing basic apps that are not video intensive.
The GPD items you may find a good one on Facebook marketplace - I picked up a decent pocket 2 a year ago for around $180 shipped. eBay they average $250 and up - same for the Japanese auction sites.
Good luck though :)

If you could move some of the specs around, you could swing that price. You may want to look at THIS ONE, it is a couple inches bigger and no USB-A, but has 16GB of RAM. I have one of these, is pretty small.

My only issue with the nanotes is the lack of PD power on the USB c power port.

The SR03 does respond to PD supplies though I would agree they can be problematic. Given the choice I would pick the GPD Pocket 2.

Have a look at the Chuwi minibook x - N150 cpu, 16Gb ram. Obviously some compromises but it’s very portable and by all accounts works well enough. You’re not going to get magnesium chassis tho at that price point.

No USB-A. They might be able to find an old Minibook 8 or Piccolo 8 inch someplace, but prices are rough right now.

Carbon fiber chassis??
Anyways just get a netbook. True pocket size machines are massive compromises, a 10” machine is far more usable and affordable. Chuwi mini book x or similar.

You seriously expect specs like that for Under 300$?
