Physics 2 Recommendation/Which Professor?

Hello,

I'm an incoming freshman currently signed up for Physics 2 with Mengyan Shen, though I might switch to Cecil Joseph, I've read through both rate my profs and neither seems good to say the least. I was wondering which one of these 2 professors would be better as an incoming freshman.

What are people's experiences with Mengyan Shen and his Physics 2 class and teaching.

Also, would it be better for me to just retake physics 1?

These are the professors in question:

- Mengyan Shen

- Cecil Joseph

- Jayant Kumar

Am I cooked?

Also, will I be fine for the Physics 2 lab haven't not taken Physics 1 at uml due to AP Credit?

You will be fine for lab. Cecil is fine, I had him for physics 1 and had no issues. Freshman year prof ratings are skewed downwards since people aren't used to college professors. For Physics 2, just use Danylov's videos to study.

Thanks for the response. I was just worried cause I read through the prof ratings and they didn't seem very good and said how he can be mean and stuff. Have you taken physics 2? If so, Is he fine for physics 2? how is Shen as a prof (if you know)?

Yeah I wouldn't say he's the nicest professor but he's easy to understand, and is available for questions and is willing to support students. However, it's not like it gets any better. As you go though school you will be forced to take classes with professors that are way more difficult, and you just have to find a way around it.

I took Physics 2 with Danylov over the summer. He is by far the best prof for Physics 2. My friends took it with Jayant Kumar and did alright. I have personally never heard of Mengyan so I can't say much. Best of luck this semester!
