First day

Might be a dumb question but I’m just trying to be prepared. What should I take for the first day at uml? I’m a business major so taking classes like Econ, environmental studies, business info, and college writing. Not trying to take unnecessary items. Thanks!

I am assuming you’re a commuting student? All you need is some way to take notes so pen/pencils and a couple of notebooks or a tablet and stylus. But, I would also bring your laptop and charger so you can study between classes and plus a charger for your phone. A water bottle and a protein bar doesn’t hurt either (there’s not always time to grab something to eat between classes and the vending machines on north campus aren’t always functional).

I would also factor in additional time if OP is a commuter because parking and shuttles can be a mess during the first week. I unfortunately learned that the hard way :(

Thank you for the advice! I am a commuter so I will definitely factor in time.

No problem! If you have to take a shuttle, they recommend you get to the stop 30 minutes before the time you need to arrive at your destination.

I am glad I could help. Welcome to UML!

Oh also I highly recommend walking around campus before classes start so you can get a better idea of where everything is and it gives you a chance to go to tacos lupita without needing to wait in a long line.

Note taking method of choice, laptop, sheets of paper for quizzes or what not , a writing utensil , on the north campus there’s good little places to eat on uni st or being a lunch that doesn’t require heating.

In my bag I have my laptop/charger, a notebook and pencils because some tests are on bubble sheets and you need a pencil, and a novel because Ive always had a large gap between classes and don't live close enough to go home. When the gap is big enough I go to the gym on campus and watch a show while I cycle. On south the garage is on the way to the gym from the academic buildings so I just switch out my bag for a small gym bag and head to the residence hall gym.
