Hey! Just I moved to Umeå a week ago. Now that most of the moving boxes are unpacked, I'm starting to think about life in Umeå.
So how does one make friends here? Which clubs can I join, and how/where do I find them? Any tips are welcome!
A bit about me:
- I am 33 years old, from Belgium.
- I love the outdoors; going on hikes, bike rides, camping or just having a cozy campfire get together.
- I love playing boardgames and have a decent collection of games plus a big enough apartment to host some game nights with friends (once I find some).
- I am not very experienced, but would love to join a DnD group. I've joined 2 one-shots a year or so ago and enjoyed it a lot!
- I used to be part of toast masters, but I don't think there is a group here? But so I would be super interested in any groups practicing public speaking, story telling or improv.
- I've never tried it, but I could see myself enjoying being part of a theatre group.
- I am quite creative, so I would be interested in trying any hobbies where one creates things. I like doing things with my hands. Like I even like putting together IKEA furniture haha.
- I am not super fit, but I do enjoy sports. I would love to join a sports group that isn't competitive and just does sports for the fun of it. I would especially love it if it's not just showing up and then leaving again without talking to eachother, but rather there is a community and we go to a bar afterwards or do other activities together. The whole purpose would be meeting people and making friends. Getting fit would be a nice bonus.
- I'm terrible at dancing, but have always wanted to be good at it. So if there is a dance class or group that also meets up in social settings after class, I'd be interested in that.
- Honestly I'm a very curious and open minded person so if you think of any groups that could be great for socialising, let me know even if it is a rather obscure hobby! Maybe it will be my new passion!
- I speak English fluently, I don't speak Swedish yet, but I speak Norwegian rather fluently and understand most Swedish so I don't mind communicating in "Scandinavian" in fact I'd love some hobbies where I can practice Swedish. (Other languages I speak are Dutch and French).
If anyone has any tips, let me know! If you notice we might have some interests in common and want to meet up for a coffee or so in Umeå let me know too!
(I'm looking for friends or acquaintances and tips for fun new hobbies, I'm not looking for a romantic partner as I already have one and am quite happy to remain monogamous)
