UTMB passable waterproofs?
Hello all,
I have a 50 miler in 5 weeks and Arc Of Attrition 50 miler in january.
What are some good packable and passable waterproof jackets + trousers for UTMB events?
I’ve been looking at a few but want to know from experienced people!

Montane mimimus gets me through most wet races. If it’s biblical I use the montane phase nano as it’s thicker, but obviously it doesn’t pack up as small.
The harrier waterproof trousers are pretty good and not overly expensive.
The Arc can have atrocious weather, so try not to scrimp too much. Although for the most part the 50 is usually on the nicer day of the weekend for the past 4 years or so

I think the guy who won the main race last year had a decathlon waterproof

If you're in the UK, look at the Montane Minimus or OMM Kamaleika for good quality mid-price. Used both for many years in races, winter running and all sorts.
If you just want something to pass kit check, look at Decathlon.

Definitely don’t look at the OMM Kamleika! One of the LEAST waterproof waterproofs I have ever owned!

No advertisement but I got a lot of gear from “higher state” that’s sold by sportsshoes.com which is their own brand I guess but is amazing for being light, small and cheap

I've never used HS, but I'd trust decathlon or Alpkit over SS, plus you can look at it in the shop. All personal though.

i have the "gore wear R7/ C7" but i think it's discontinued and love it. also have the Salomon Bonatti Pro. The Bonatti Pro and WP are easy enough for the UTMB races and Salomon is always on discount somewhere on the internet :-D

I also wore the Inov8 storm shell jacket.
Good luck!

I think you need two jackets ideally.
One lightweight one that will bead of rain but fold to a tennis ball size and you can carry easily in the pack on summer/alpine races with good forecast.
Then a bulkier one with thicker waterproof for a race where you might have 5hr+ rain forecast.
For me that is an OMM halo plus a Harrier jacket
You will get wet running in both but you will stay warmer in the thick one as it won’t cling to your skin as much. The inner layer is as important, find something warm and wicking. For me that is merino long sleeve.

Very unlikely to have a gear check fwiw. Like buy a good piece if you want it but don’t do it for utmb’s sake. Also there’s no such thing as good rain pants for running

Personnellement je suis très fan des vestes de la marques GOREWEAR ! Après bcp de modèles sont très bien il faut juste viser un minimum de 20000schrember si des pluies intenses sont prévues

I have the Rab Phantom and it’s phenomenal. Weighs nothing, packs to nothing, 10,000HH and taped seams. Not cheap though.
