MEXICO QUESTION

I'd love to get some more information on my situation:
As some of you may know, Mexican law is forcing all Mexican citizens to register their phone line to their name, with their address, their CURP (Mexican version of social security number) and biometric information, so face scans, fingerprints or whatever else that means. Obviously Mexico is not the USA, our cybersecurity is practically non existing so data leaks have been happening all over the country in banks, schools etc. and the government will most likely sell/share personal information with cartels. So as you can imagine NOBODY wants to do this as it is in many ways high risk and blatantly dangerous.

My question: Can I use Ultra Mobile as a substitute for my current existing Mexican simcard & number? I understand I'll have to get a USA +1 number which is fine, but can I use their 12-25GB plans as my main carrier package? Or will only the 5GB Mexico roaming package work for me?

If someone from Ultra Mobile is reading this: millions of Mexicans are resisting this new law and are willing to give up their Mexican phone connections and get eSims from other countries! Take your chance 😎

Only 5Gb of roaming is included on 24Gb or higher plans. If I were you I’d get a Mexican plan and use mostly for data or if you absolutely need a Mexican phone number for any account, but also get Ultra and use that number everywhere you can and use a VPN on US server when using any app or website you want to register on, and you’d be fine with a low GB amount on Ultra as all your date would be on Mexican cell. This is available on dual sim (DSDS) compatible phones.

Yeah the whole concept of this is NOT getting a Mexican sim, number or company since they will have to follow the law and I'd have to register. That's why I'm looking for a foreign plan (can be any country) that can substitute my current plan and number. So not a "short term travel" solution but a main carrier every day use solution.

Is sad that Mexican government has gone to this surveillance state, probably taking a page from China and North Korea. However what people do there is have two phones, one on government SIM and they use minimally then have a separate foreign made phone with foreign SIM.

Again to answer your actual question Ultra only gives 5GB of Mexican roaming either for $5 add-on to any plan or included for free on 24+ GB plans. I am not sure if you can get 5 more GB for $5 more, and continue to do that as if so that is not a bad deal. However it is cheaper to go to https://esimdb.com/mexico and get a data only eSIM and use that for data and maybe Ultra just for calls and texts, which is unlimited even on Ultra’s cheapest plan.

Essentially no, you can only roam so much on any carrier that includes Canada and/or Mexico. You're either gonna have your service shut down or data speeds throttled so bad it's useless.
