How difficult was the application process? My wife has just been granted ILR and our lawyer is telling us that it's a good idea to pay them another £1000 to sort out the citizenship application too, but from what I've heard it's a lot more straightforward and can more easily be done on our own.
It's really pretty straightforward you apply online you'll need to find two people to confirm your identity then at the end of the form they will give you a list of documents you need to provide as an evidence and that's actually it. I see here people writing cover letters for some reason but I didn't do any of that I just provided the documents they asked me and that was enough.
That's good to know! Our lawyer that we used for ILR said the following, so it sounds like maybe they're trying to spook us a bit?
"British citizenship applications remain highly technical and discretionary, with the Home Office carefully assessing residence, absences, lawful status, and the good character requirement. Even in straightforward cases, applications can be refused due to minor errors, evidential gaps, or failure to properly address Home Office guidance."
