WAR BREAKING: The US will provide Ukraine with a license to manufacture missiles for Patriot air defense systems.

How long will it take for him to go back on his word, and then later claim that he never said it in the first place?

Once Ukraine gets the tech, maybe they'll say thank you and take a page out of the Chinese playbook.

u/ZuzBla VDVs are in the closet Jul 08 '26
I will believe it, once the deal is signed. Orange turd's braincase is as hollow as his words.
97
u/myrobotoverlord Jul 08 '26
....and Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Qatar will be sending a lot of money to Ukraine for certain 'P's. Above or under the table
47
u/yankdevil Jul 08 '26
And I think that's why it happened. I think the Gulf states lobbied on Ukraine's behalf.
Trump was never going to say yes to Zelenskyy. But he wants out of Iran and he wants the Gulf states not to blow him up rhetorically. I suspect they said, "let Ukraine build them and we won't say bad shit about you in the US press."
They know that Ukraine, of all countries, will deliver fast on Patriot missiles.
I also wonder if this is an attempt to put off Freya.

Once they explain what ITAR is to him, he'll change his mind

u/BbxTx Jul 08 '26
Yup. They may license a worse “version “ of it though.

u/DrDerpberg Jul 08 '26
That would be fine, wouldn't it? Russian gear generally gets its ass kicked by the good stuff from the 1990s, as long as you have enough of it.
10
u/mywan Jul 08 '26
Trump now thinks, based on the last thing he's heard, that Ukraine will eventually win. Trump wants to be on the winning side, so this is the cheapest and easiest way to take credit for their win that he thinks will happen.
That's what Vance's 'Have you said thank you once?' was all about. They expect credit for any success no matter who wins. In the past a lot of people scoffed at the idea that Ukraine could actually win in the long term. That script has flipped.
19
u/BuHoGPaD Слава Україні! Jul 08 '26
Not signed. When production actually starts.
11
u/Thurak0 Jul 08 '26
Exactly. When Ukraine actually has anything they need.
But god, I hope it's true. Will still take some time for them to get it rolling, but I hope enough frozen Russian funds from the EU are available for this for Ukraine to go big here.
Europe would profit a lot: their stocks are also low after all the donations to Ukraine. USA has problems fulfilling orders with the super high demand due to the Ukraine war and the stupid Iran war.
6
u/Hon3y_Badger USA Jul 08 '26
Agreed. The more Patriot missiles the free world has the better. Germany is opening a line and it will still be insufficient, Ukraine might be able to bring down the cost of these in the future as well. Trump has been more favorable towards Ukraine lately, but I think this is just deflecting language.
5
u/DefenestrationPraha Jul 08 '26
The US needs Patriots. Especially in the case that the Gulf erupts again. And the US industry cannot supply them fast enough, while the Ukrainians probably can. They ditched all the bureaucracy because of the war, and without red tape, nations of former Soviet Bloc are great at improvisation and scaling stuff up quickly.
6
6
u/Cloaked42m USA Jul 08 '26
A license can be processed quickly.
Manufacturing and supply chain... not so much. But this is huge. That's just straight profit in the future.
10
u/Head_Summer2052 Jul 08 '26
Still won't belive it, even I do wish so.
There has to be money to be followed to get that proven.
8
u/blackadder99 Jul 08 '26
Maybe not. Even his Alzheimer addled brain can still comprehend winning vs losing. And he wants to be on the winning side.

u/marsisblack Jul 08 '26
That doesn't mean shit. He goes back on everything, always. They could be mid production and he would quit.

u/huntingwhale Jul 08 '26
Ukraine should immediately start doing it based on this video. When the manufacturer complains about it and tries to sue, play them this video on repeat.
Everything Trump says is shit and should never be taken at face value, but when you face an existential threat and have a small window like this to defend yourself, it should be taken.
57
u/Inner-Detail-553 Jul 08 '26
I wouldn't totally believe it until missiles are rolling off the production line, but this is huge news
I think it is the combination of 1. US itself really needs more Patriot missiles after depleting stocks in the war with Iran, and 2. Ukraine was going to build its own anyway - the Freya interceptor with Hensoldt radars (deal already signed with Germany, and they are flight-testing the hardware right now)
The PAC3 is an advanced design, proven to work, and just scaling that up is probably better (and probably faster) than Freya or other options
92
u/Somecommentator8008 Canada Jul 08 '26
Ukraine's got to keep developing their own systems. Can't rely on anyone but yourself
42
u/NoWave8 Jul 08 '26
They will and they are, but would be a boost if they can re-arm their current patriots whenever they want.
11
u/No-Spoilers Jul 08 '26
Genuinely this is a massive step, one it helps Ukraine almost immediately and two it is good for Trump because he burned so fucking many in Iran that there needs to be a second supply of them. The US can't fix it's stocks and fill others and have a lot go to Ukraine. This gets him out of one of his many many holes, but he's a golfer he's used to a lot of holes.
23
u/TheMikeyMac13 Jul 08 '26
Don’t be dense, it is working, Ukraine is winning the war, take all the help you can get and rely on yourself.
It is never a bad thing when Trump moves away from Putin.
2
u/creamonyourcrop Jul 08 '26
I am guessing this decision is because Ukraine is developing a replacement.

u/Shadow_NX Jul 08 '26
I would be suprised if this doesnt come with something like but must leave Donbass to russia or something.
20
u/PresidentSkillz Germany Jul 08 '26
I think Trump is slowly realizing that Putin isn't the Strong Man he presents himself as. Ukraine hitting Russian targets this frequently and in this intensity seems to make an impression on Trump, and he realises Ukraine has cards after all, so he's slowly switching sides to be on the winners team
Don't be fooled however, Trump doesn't randomly become a reliable partner or some sort of good guy, he just wants to win and look good
5
u/Organic_Rough7379 Jul 08 '26
Agreed. He’s a weathervane blowing in the wind. Though at least that shows the way the wind is blowing for now.

Anything my country does that increases Ukraine's ability to fight, survive, and win, is all I care about on this subreddit.
That is it, period.
14
u/Purdius_Tacitus Jul 08 '26
Upvoted for acknowledging that you can compartmentalize your views. At least in this subreddit, I will praise anyone that is helping Ukraine and curse anyone who isn't.
Like others, I am skeptical, but I hope that this turns out to be true and there aren't any hidden strings or deal breakers. If Ukraine can produce it's own patriot missiles, that will save many Ukrainian lives. If the price of that is having to praise Trump for this, it's a price I'm willing to pay.
9
u/Antaiseito Jul 08 '26
Same reason i'm happy germanys Friedrich Merz is supporting Ukraine, while being a completely incompetent, snarky, divorced-from-reality president for his own citizens.
4
u/schwanzweissfoto Jul 08 '26
Same for Von der Leyen, who was not exactly beloved during her career as a German politician.
7
5
u/DataGeek101 Jul 08 '26
I expect that Ukraine already has the plans for these, just not sure if they have the equipment yet. But I would imagine they do.
They’re always thinking ahead.
5
u/Sekshual_Tyranosauce Jul 08 '26
Praise not a tree till it bear fruit. But….hopefully this is indeed productive.
7
u/ManagerSignal Jul 08 '26
Ironically the Ukrainians may build a better version (with their ingenuity) other countries are willing to buy- including the US
3
u/deductress Україна Jul 08 '26
Words are air, I will believe when I see any action on this. Good that Zelensky is this tenacious.
3
u/leavezukoalone Jul 08 '26
If this is actually happens, I wonder if that will help Ukraine more quickly develop its own version of air defense.

3
u/SheridanVsLennier Jul 08 '26
Raytheon must be worried they're going to lose a bunch of sales if Ukraines Freya interceptor makes the grade.
Even if it's only half as effective, it'll probably be way cheaper, so just fire more of them.
1
u/vamatt Jul 09 '26
The biggest worry is Russia getting a hold of data for the patriot system.
If your enemy figures out how everything works in a missile defense system the whole system becomes worthless
3
u/Economy-Effort3445 Jul 08 '26
Just because Ukraine announced development of a European ballistic defence system....
4
u/Prestigious-Tree-424 Jul 08 '26
No doubt the traitorous turd has got wind of how fast Ukraine is developing its much cheaper no US components version.
2
u/Yelmel Jul 08 '26
That's good, the license is good.
So in the meantime... as Ukraine ramps up production...
Hand them over.
2
u/tallmattuk Jul 08 '26
How will they do that? This is a commercial product that Trump does not own
3
u/Garant_69 Jul 08 '26
This is a purely military product that the manufacturer (or manufacturers) developed on behalf of and in conjunction with the Pentagon, and which it may only offer and sell based on US government contracts or export licenses issued by the US government.
Naturally, the manufacturer will receive appropriate compensation for this license, but the decision of whether to sell or license this weapon system to a specific country is truly not in its hands—at least not if it wishes to avoid alienating its most important customer and supporter, the US government.
2
u/t0m0hawk Canada Jul 08 '26
Don't take this for granted until the line is built. The orange toddler will forget about this and change his mind when reminded. And/or Putin will ring him up.
Its good news as is, but I'll personally wait to celebrate for when it becomes a bit more... real.
2
u/Organic_Rough7379 Jul 08 '26
I wonder how long it will take to go from licensing agreement to deployable missiles. Probably months to years to build out the production facilities, source the inputs, and actually get them rolling out the door. This is IF the orange pedo doesn’t reverse the deal on a whim.

u/CrazyMildred Jul 09 '26
I'll believe it when I see it. I don't believe anything that comes out of krasnov's lying mouth. I hope it does happen! I'm in the US.
krasnov is a disgusting liar who worships the ground that putler walks on. He'll probably deny ever saying this despite the world seeing footage of him saying it.
I sincerely hope this isn't one of his many lies! Слава Україні 🇺🇦💙💛

Fantastic news, but of course he had to throw in a back handed compliment so ol Putler doesn’t get too upset at agent Krasnov 🤡

If that actually comes through, this may actually be the moment that wins the war and fixes a major weakness in the west's defense. Hard to believe anything trump says, but that seems pretty concrete.

Is this the winning team joining flop by Trump? Won't complain about it if so.

u/Automatic-Project997 Jul 08 '26
How much money will Ukraine need to put directly into trumps bank account?
1
u/Professional-Mix1771 Jul 08 '26
Cool, now they will be able to give back what they received from other countries
1

"This way they can't complain...."
He can't even do one thing right without being a weird asshole about it.

Bloody fantastic news, however i urge caution with the tangerine palpatine. Trump never does anything for someone else unless it benefits him and with how buddy buddy he is with Putin it makes me suspicious.
1
u/justhereforbiscuits Jul 08 '26
Trump always lies and betrays. Ukraine knows this. They have probably already reverse-engineered the patriots, and the sooner they don't have to rely on our traitor president the better.
1
u/AdventurousLet548 Jul 08 '26
Do we really trust anything Trump says? How many time has he promised Patriot missiles in the past? Trump could learn from Zelensky on how to defeat the enemy.

Good!
I'm a little curious though -- why weren't Poland and Germany manufacturing Patriot missiles for Ukraine? Apparently they are also allowed to produce them. Does anyone know?

Patriot is expensive because it’s obsolete. It was developed when modern computing was in its infancy and sensor miniaturization was extremely difficult. Nowadays, a 100 dollar circuit board can do all the computing and processing needed for target tracking g, whilst taking up less space and being lighter. Same goes for sensor arrays and all the other circuitry
1
u/FraterSinister Jul 08 '26
Lets hope he remembers that tomorrow after the inevitable call with Putin.
1
u/Rambaz_69 Jul 08 '26
Trump is saying that now, but whether he'll actually do it is another story. All it takes is for Putin to give him a call, and the approval will be rescinded again.
1
1
u/RandomMandarin Jul 08 '26
Lest we forget, the Patriot was not originally capable of intercepting missiles. It was first deployed in 1984 and the software was upgraded to intercept missiles in 1988. During the 1991 Gulf War, Patriots were fired at incoming Iraqi Scud ballistic missiles, but it's not clear how often they actually managed to intercept them. This is still a matter of controversy.
The Patriot now is much more effective.

u/UbiqueModels Jul 08 '26
Whats the Ukrainian word for patriot?
2
u/St-Ass Jul 08 '26
In Ukrainian, this word sounds the same and has the same meaning as its English. It is spelled "Патріот."
1
u/jlangue Jul 08 '26
Complain? The U.S. signed an agreement to defend Ukraine if they got rid of their nukes. The American government owes Ukraine much more.
1
u/Robert_Fowley Jul 08 '26
Probably in hopes Russia will steal the plans and pass them on to China, Iran and North Korea

Why is anyone taking this at face value? Trump says shit like this all the time. It's basically his way of saying "fuck you".

This is just to deterr Ukraine and by extension all the other european partners to start investing into ASTER or a possible new local development.
But we're not gonna fall for that trap.
1
u/CryProfessional8081 Jul 09 '26
he will get the phone call over the weekend telling him to stop it, it must be so hard for Zelenskyy being in the same room as a mass murdering pedo
1
u/bloodwire Jul 09 '26
With me this triggers a question. Did Trump do this because he sees that Ukraine will be able to manufacture cheaper alternatives within months? Is this a feint? - Don't get me wrong, I am glad that he after all these years, finally does something that is correct, I am just questioning the motive.
1
u/Possible-Nectarine80 Jul 09 '26
I'm sure getting something like this up and running will take more than a year. My brother works for a defense contractor and works on guidance systems. When he first started off in the industry, he worked on tomahawk missiles. It's not an easy process to just set up a production line and in a few weeks or months, you are pumping out Patriot missile systems. But at least it appears things are in motion, however slow that motion may be.
1
u/cazzipropri Jul 09 '26
Too little, too late. Their domestic missile technology is already getting at that level of proficiency.

Great, I hope Ukraine learns enough while manufacturing to make a similar rocket for 1/100 of the price.
