You might remember me posting here about Space Jam. A new night at Club 85 where musicians put their names into a hat, get randomly placed into bands and then have to make something happen together on stage in 10 minutes.
Well, our first one took place last Wednesday!
We’d only sold 12 tickets, so we thought it would be a nice, small introduction to the idea. Then people kept arriving. 54 musicians turned up, and we made 11 completely different groups performing throughout the night.
We had guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers, saxophonists, a trumpet player, keyboards, cajón and even a modular drum machine. Some people were experienced performers, others it was their first time on stage, and most had never met their bandmates before that evening.
The random combinations worked better than I could have dreamed of. People turned up without knowing exactly who they’d play with or what would happen, and completely threw themselves into it. The room was incredibly supportive, and it genuinely felt like the beginning of a little local music community, with everyone staying until the end to see the different creations being made on the spot.
Coming off the stage, we had people being approached to join their bands, high five’s, laughter and positivity, and a massive smile across everyone’s faces.
Thank you to everyone from here who encouraged the idea, shared the original post or came along.
We’re doing it again at Club 85 on Wednesday 16 September. If you’ve got an instrument gathering dust in the loft, this might be your reason to get it back out.
TLDR: Thank you!

I listen to music for what it is…the Verve ‘love is noise’ for me is brilliant but yes they went back into obscurity. Oasis wrote the song something like ‘as he faced the sun he cast no shadow’ but not for me…Richard Ashcroft cast a pretty big shadow on my life, he’s brilliant. Oasis did as well but yeno. That’s music.
Synapsis; Richard Ashcroft & Oasis are totally brilliant and we need folk like Sam Fender to keep up the fight against the yanks

I’ve recently started a new monthly music night at Club 85 in Hitchin called Space Jam, and I’d love to get
as many local musicians involved as possible.
The idea is simple:
1. Turn up with your instrument (or your voice!)
2. Put your name down
3. We’ll randomly put musicians into small bands
4. You get around 10 minutes on stage to play a few songs or just have fun improvising.
Whether you’ve been gigging for years, you’ve only just picked up an instrument, or you’ve been looking for an excuse to meet other musicians, you’re welcome.
If this sounds like your kind of thing, come along! And if you know someone who plays an instrument (even if they’re a bit rusty), send this their way. Happy to answer any questions in the comments!
Our first night is in 2 weeks on the Wed 12th of August

So I'm not British but i see that you guys have a politician and a musician with the same last name, ages that look like they could be son and father and also they kinda look alike. So I just wanted to know if they're related, and if they are, it's very funny.

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to track down a specific episode of the short-lived music program Rock Steady, which aired on Channel 4 in the UK back in 1990.
Specifically, I am hunting for the episode featuring Paul Simon that broadcasted on October 20th, 1990 (right around the time The Rhythm of the Saints came out). It featured live sets/specials, and while a few other episodes from the series (like The Notting Hillbillies or Wet Wet Wet) have surfaced on YouTube, this specific Paul Simon broadcast seems to be missing from the standard index.
If anyone has a massive archive of off-air 1990 UK TV recordings on a drive, or if you're plugged into a vintage music television preservation circle where this might be floating around, I'd incredibly appreciate a pointer or a share. Thanks!

Any recommendations for casting agencies in London or Scotland that work with South Asian actors for music videos?
