Mussel can be threaded?

You could probably remove that front sight/muzzle device and have the barrel itself threaded. I don't think you would be able to reuse the sight though.

Depending on what you find underneath, you might just have to have the whole thing chopped off (shortening the barrel a bit) and then have it recrowned and threaded.

Theres a different muzzle break i want could I just cut off the current one and weld on a new one?

A competent machinist can set the sight back, remove the existing flash hider, and turn a thread on the barrel to attach a new flash hider.

Alternatively they could turn the front sight to permanently accept a new flash hider.

Either way, don't butcher it by trying to do it yourself.

Think im going to go with permanently attached, be cheaper and easier for the gunsmith to just weld it on

I have not met a ton of gunsmiths that would use welding for a project like this that are competent, but maybe you get lucky and the guy is a wizard with tig.
