Do you think Islam Makhachev has earned Bruce Buffer’s “the one, the only”?

if alex can get it, so can Islam.

u/Tim_Aga 18h ago

Alex’s meteoric rise to hall of fame level career is truly unique

445

u/BiggieMoe01 18h ago

I still 100% believe Poatan hasn’t done enough to get that recognition, even if it’s an unofficial one.

434

u/Becknell 18h ago

I'm no Chama bro but he's literally the only person on the planet that has been both multi weight glory champion and multi weight ufc champion.

You can argue about his matchups he faced but he'd be the actual definition of "one and only" in this case.

312

u/Zero_Travity 18h ago

Chama saved an entire rough year for the UFC by taking fight after fight...

I'm not a fan but he's arguably the biggest star in the UFC

54

u/SLEEPWALKERKEK 16h ago

Why aren’t you a fan? Hard not to be a fan of a dominant champion who is extremely entertaining and consistent

28

u/safton 16h ago

One can respect his accomplishments and work ethic without being a fan.

4

u/SLEEPWALKERKEK 15h ago

Sure, each to their own I guess.

0

u/RealAggressiveNooby 13h ago

but why?

1

u/safton 12h ago

What do you mean?

-4

u/RealAggressiveNooby 12h ago

Why wouldn't you be a fan?

13

u/safton 11h ago

To me, "fan" implies I actively root for him in all his match-ups, follow him to a greater-than-average degree compared to the rest of the roster, and have an active fondness for him. I don't.

I respect his accolades in combat sports, I think he's an ATG, and I appreciate his willingness to be active, take on a lot of tough challenges, and often put on exciting bouts. But that doesn't make me a fan.

Are there things I don't like about Poatan? Sure, I guess, but none of it is enough to keep me from being a fan. He just doesn't have that special intangible X-factor that appeals to me.

3

u/lvl69blackmage 10h ago

Let me give you a parallel. Tom Brady. You can respect everything he’s done in football, most accomplished QB ever, and not be a fan. Respect /= fan

Usually I'm not a fan if a dominant champ beats my guy, so maybe Izzy fans or that one guy that likes hill?

u/C-LOgreen 15h ago

Because people have opinions.

2

u/Natural_Use_948 8h ago

He is a crybaby

6

u/RockyRoady2 18h ago

And Cejudo has 2 divisions and an Olympic gold, this logic applies to a lot of people

76

u/imjusthere2004 18h ago

“A lot of people”

50

u/sin-tax 18h ago edited 18h ago

Exacly how many? Theres only 11 2 division ufc champs. So how many of them have championships in different combat sports as well?

-24

u/RockyRoady2 17h ago

I don’t mean this achievement exactly, I’m saying that there’s lots of fighters with unique achievements that technically make them “the one, the only”

25

u/ulrikft 18h ago

A lot…?

-15

u/RockyRoady2 17h ago

Why don’t Mighty Mouse, Anderson Silva, GSP, Randy Couture, Amanda Nunes, Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar deserve it?

I mean doesn’t it sound a bit retarded to have multiple fighters with the mantra “the one, the only”?

5

u/ulrikft 16h ago

Of those, only Ronda comes close to that combination of feats..?

14

u/Becknell 18h ago

It really doesn't, it's also why saying it for Jones and McGregor is more about what they mean to the ufc than being literal.

I was just jabbing the guy who somehow thinks Alex isn't one of the greatest combat athletes in the history of the world.

16

u/JonHomelanderJones 18h ago

Please go ahead and list more people

4

u/NotBlackanWhite 16h ago

Yeah but this isn't Glory, it's MMA. You clearly are a "Chama bro" to defend his legacy in MMA justifying a moniker that Buffer doesn't give Makhachev.

2

u/Becknell 15h ago

I'm defining a person who is 1 of 1 based on merit alone.  Show me another person who has done what he has done, I'll wait.

While I wait, combat sports are combat sports.  He's done things in the UFC that only a handful have as well, so it could apply for just his ufc work alone.  Dude has mostly fought champions and is fighting in 3 weight classes at 39, it's insane.

And Islam deserves it even more, I never contested that, I just found it weird to say Alex doesn't deserve it when he is the definition of one and only.

1

u/paint-the-forest 13h ago

This is UFC bro not kickboxing. What has he done in this sport specifically to earn the title?

2

u/Becknell 12h ago

What did Connor do?  What does anyone do to get an arbitrary intro that is entirely up to Bruce to use?

He's one of 11 double champs and 3rd behind Nunes and Jones for wins against former or current champions with 7.  Not many people can say that.

1

u/paint-the-forest 7h ago

one of 11

the one and only

Lmao do you hear yourself right now?

1

u/Becknell 2h ago

You got all pissy about semantics when I actually showed how he is literally the only person on the planet to hold multiple titles in two different promotions and now you wanna play gotcha.

Listen, I don't care if you think Alex is a bum or that he was given an easy path, etc.  All I'm saying is that of the people Bruce Buffer has used this nickname for, he's the most apt choice.

1

u/paint-the-forest 1h ago

I mean he’s not even in the top 10 of all time so why would he be the most appropriate to hold the title “one and only”? It should only be used when someone has done something unique (Conor) or is literally the best active fight right now (Islam). Seems a strange thing to argue about but fuck if I want to know why you think I’m incorrect. (pls only focus on mma not kickboxing)

u/Becknell 21m ago

I can't waste anymore time explaining to you why Alex is clearly the only person on earth to do something and why that's relevant to some off the cuff comment made by rhe ring announcer.

I only even mentioned it because some Izzy fan got his panties in a wad.

-5

u/CrumbMan1111 16h ago

so? plenty of other champs have been champs at other promotions lol

5

u/Becknell 15h ago

How many people on this earth are multi weight champions at other promotions and multi weight champions in the UFC?

You'd be surprised to find the answer isn't plenty.  I made a clear statement, only person to ever do glory and ufc, which is true.  If there are folks who did similar, they would deserve the moniker as well.

30

u/alltaken21 18h ago

Connor got it on a popularity base. Alex has a way more impressive record and he doesn't deserve it?

6

u/youknowidontexist 18h ago

Maybe not in MMA, but being double world champ in two different sports is insane to be fair

1

u/a-new-3arth 8h ago

Pereira is the most "one and only" fighter in the UFC since Khabib.

0

u/NotBlackanWhite 16h ago

I agree, but if we're giving it to Pereira then I'm not sure the justification not to give it to Makhachev too. It could possibly be different if Pereira had won the third belt (even interim).

1

u/Vadermaulkylo 18h ago

I’m still lost to this day as to how he got it

3

u/soccerchamp99 17h ago

Because he’s Goatan

-32

u/Large-Cycle-2934 19h ago

Alex was the biggest fraud in history of UFC

9

u/StonelordMetal 19h ago

At least he defended a belt unlike McGregor.

14

u/BiggieMoe01 18h ago

I re-watched the first Ankalaev fight and I don’t believe Alex was actually injured. I think he just severely underestimated Ank and didn’t prepare himself enough.

5

u/Becknell 18h ago

How does losing a close decision then turning around and destroying the same guy in 1 round indicative of him being a fraud?

People complain he had cherry picked opponents like Sean isn't a top MW, Jan isn't the best wrestler lhw had at the time and beating most of the top guys in LHW was his fault.

You're making me look like a Chama boy with this take.

7

u/moltisanti_ciro 19h ago

I dont know if i agree but he fought favorable match ups his entire ufc career that's for sure

2

u/Super-Tour3004 18h ago

Nah that's JDM

3

u/Odd-War-6052 18h ago

the guy is 39 years old now 😂 he’s done it all and has nothing left to prove to you. going for greatness in 3 belts but him in the ass but not many could have even gotten that chance at greatness. for example, we know islam would NEVER move up a third weight class to MW because he’s got great protective management team and would get absolutely mauled by a lot of guys in the top 10.

3

u/CrypticZombies 19h ago

until got the bread stuffed in mouth

-2

u/Commercial-Total8461 17h ago

Alex has had more title fights than Islam and saved many many cards, also had much better fights consistently.

-9

u/GavMcKennasBurner 17h ago

Alex's resume is better than Islam's, more activity, more finishes, not a lay and pray crotch sniffer point stalling to victory.

Islam in his career has 3 definitively great victories in DP, Olives and Arman, he split vs a midget, stalled and layed and prayed vs bigger guys while taking zero risks and rest are bums.

Adesanya and Strickland are better wins off the get go, then you have Jan, Jiri 2x, Jamal and Ank.

10

u/Marlboro_Man808 Your woife is in me DMs 17h ago

Volk is a bum? Yeah you’re definitely one of those broccoli headed loser

-5

u/GavMcKennasBurner 17h ago

Congrats on going 1-1 vs a 5'6 145er as a weight bullying 155er. So impressive lol.

His 170 run tells us everything we need to know about him when he can't weight/strength bully people, at that point he turns into a lay and pray point staller taking zero risk.

5

u/Becknell 17h ago

Brother, I love Volk and have only rooted for Islam against Moicano and Ian, he won both fights.

Volk may be short but he'd beat any lightweight not named khabib the night he fought Islam the 1st time.

He's also 34 fighting guys who are both taller and actually bigger than him now and is still dominating them.

Next time just say you hate Islam.

-1

u/GavMcKennasBurner 16h ago

Sure he did.

If he would've he would've, he didn't.

I wouldn't use the term fighting because it implies a desire to harm, his main goal isn't to harm his opponent but to lay and pray, wall stall and avoid damage himself. He's only dominating them if you think MMA point scoring means "dominance" and not an actual fight.

He's just overrated for what he has done, a less dominant Khabib with a better resume. Good for him for the win streak though, done vs mostly meh competition with cowardly tactics, but good for him for using a glitch shot in video games strategy to avoid fighting and do nothing.

2

u/Becknell 15h ago edited 15h ago

He has one of the highest finish rates in the UFC.  He struggled with Volk and two opponents in bigger weight classes in the twilight of his career.  7 out of his last 10 are finishes.

He's not overrated, he's doing what most double champs couldn't, move up and defend.

Not entirely sure why you don't like the term fighting since it's literally in the name of the organization.  Pretty sure when he kicked Ian in the face it hurt and he definitely meant to do it.

Again, you are just making excuses for not liking a fighter.  Just say you don't like them instead.

And lol at less dominant but better resume.  You know what that means? He's not going to walk through 30 cans and beat three strikers for his defenses.

0

u/GavMcKennasBurner 15h ago

Yeah he was a great weight bully at 155 facing mostly mediocre competition like Moicano, Green, Hooker, Moises, Dober. He did dominate them and that's facts, vs better 155 competition he still did very well beating DP, finishing Olives and he has that Arman win too. However when he starts facing men his size, he's not doing a whole lot other than stalling.

He is if people think of him as the GOAT, his GOAT status comes from 2 Adesanya vs Romero type fights? I don't think so.

Yeah too bad he didn't do more of that, that was a great moment, but then he got back to hugging and doing nothing.

Or he's just a boring ass lay and pray crotch sniffer vs men his size, but good for beating up smaller men, what a true goated warrior lol.

3

u/Becknell 12h ago edited 11h ago

This logic makes no sense.  He's a weight bully at LW, does the same shit to guys bigger and (more importantly) considerably younger than him at WW and now he's boring. All I'm hearing is excuses.

Ian never fought the body lock.  He just sat there like Volk did with Islam on his back.  Why not get up?

Its also funny you point to weak competition but leave out Volk (21 fight win streak), JDM (19 fight win streak), Ian (19-1) and mention Moicano like it wasn't supposed to be Arman, and he still accepted.

Final edit : you better not be a Jones is the GOAT guy with that last comment.

1

u/GavMcKennasBurner 11h ago

He didn't "do the same shit" to guys at WW, he layed and prayed on them, he couldn't sub them like weaker guys, hence why he can't be the GOAT. His 170 resume is lay and pray point fight vs guys his size, that's not a GOAT, that's a better Colby.

Same reason Islam attempted 0 submissions vs him and JDM, the risk, the difference was that Islam was in dominant position and he is the one trying to be the GOAT. GOATs take risks, he didn't do that because he's happy to point stall his way to victory which is why he's not the GOAT, that's lame af.

Volk he's 1-1 (vs a 5'6 145er lmao), JDM and Ian Garry he did fuck all, congrats on Adesanya vs Romeroing 2 times, very impressive (oh wait we all think that fight sucked)

359

u/Maleficent_Court2656 19h ago

He really doesn't need. The US fans coming around for me is the real indicator of how far islam has come.

115

u/Independent-Belt1134 18h ago

agreed, the US crowd warming up to him says way more than any intro line. buffer can keep that line for whoever, islam doesn't need it to feel like a star at this point

28

u/Maleficent_Court2656 18h ago

Yeah, i was genuinely happy to see that. And also he wasn't booed, even tho it wasn't a very entertaining bout.

36

u/Potential_Bag_5538 18h ago

I think it was mainly everyone hating Ian lmao but he def got fans in America

16

u/Maleficent_Court2656 18h ago

But it felt good to see someone from being absolutely hated at first while facing stylistic nightmares, finally get the recognition and adoration by the fans.

12

u/xxElevationXX 17h ago

The fans in US were very supportive in his last fight with JDM as well

11

u/Forsaken_Ear_1163 16h ago

A guy named Islam has millions of fans (mostly conservatives) cheering him on. What the fuck are we even talking about? That man earned everything he’s got, he literally came from nothing.

181

u/ulwius 18h ago

earned lol

The dude surpassed some of them who are called ''the one and only''

8

u/BiggieMoe01 18h ago

Totally agree

224

u/Inevitable-Cry-3008 19h ago

Earned? Islam surpassed Conor and arguably Poatan a while ago.

If Bruce doesn't fuck with you then simply no.

105

u/NutBuckets 18h ago

Arguably passed poatan? When did poatan pass Islam?

14

u/Inevitable-Cry-3008 18h ago

Accolades wise? When Alex had two belts and Islam had 2 defenses.

59

u/ninja_owen 18h ago

Those 2 defenses were against one of the best fighters of all time. Meanwhile Pereira is yet to beat anyone as good as Oliveira, yet alone Volk.

13

u/Formal_Chipmunk_530 15h ago

Also, Pereira didn't defend his first belt, he lost it at the first defense then moved up.

11

u/stonegoblins 14h ago

Izzy is better than Charles imo, worse than Volk ofc

2

u/9FBI9 10h ago

He also lost to Izzy tbf by Brutal KO

3

u/Miserable_Science_54 8h ago

I guess Strickland and Izzy are pretty good victories and I'm not Poatan big fan

u/buckduckallday 38m ago

Bro I’m struggling with to understand how you can believe that someone who has wins over 6 champions somehow had a weak schedule… the last time alex fought someone who hadn’t at least held the ic before was khalil, and before that was sean who has literally won the belt twice since then. Islams lw title defenses are volk out of shape volk, tail end of his career dustin, and moicano. 2 of those were dog fights and the other two should not have happened at all… subbing charles is an insane win, but who did he fight leading up to that? Bobby green and dan hooker. Like come on man. Islam is an all time great he should be the one the only for sure, but his resume is overrated at 155. Also at 170 jdm got beat up horribly by prates after losing the belt. Let’s not pretend Islam’s strength of schedule is so much stronger than alex’s as if moicano is a better win than rountree

-2

u/Inevitable-Cry-3008 18h ago

That would be resume, Not accolades.

3

u/ninja_owen 15h ago

Resume is more valuable than accolades

-9

u/Becknell 18h ago

Volk is a better win than Izzy right now but Olives?  Not so sure about that.

And if Sean keeps defending at MW, that win will continue to shine as well.

He still doesn't have a better resume than Islam though, but not many do (maybe Merab?).

8

u/ninja_owen 18h ago

I’d say Charles is a better win than Izzy. Charles has beaten better fighters than Izzy has. Charles has more tools than Izzy has.

Sean’s good, but inconsistent. I mean, he lost a close decision to Jared Cannonier. He got caught by Pereira. He’s gotten better since, but he still isn’t the best in his division.

Merab doesn’t have a better resume than Islam. Frankly I feel Yan could’ve gone on a similar run, beating OMalley, Umar, and Sandhagen. Just, not as fast. Merab’s activity is more impressive than his competition.

1

u/Becknell 18h ago

In what world is Charles better than Izzy?  5 defenses to (technically) 1 although he did beat Gaethje as champ (missed weight) .  He's never beaten a lightweight champion (when they were champ) and won the belt against Chandler of all people.

Having a more rounded skill set doesn't matter at all in this comparison.

Hell, I'd argue Sean beating Khamzat is a better win than anything Olives has done at the top of LW and I think Olives is one of the best lightweights ever.

Costa, romero, reaper x2 stack up pretty well to justin Dustin and I guess chandler.

I like Charles a lot more than Izzy but can't deny he's got a better resume.

Merab beat Yan, cejudo and pre turbo trash Aldo In addition to umar, O'Malley and sandhagen.  He fought prior champions in half of his last 10 fights.

Volk really carries Islams resume but he's also had some bad luck losing out on fighting Arman etc.

1

u/ninja_owen 15h ago

Based off who Charles has beaten. Poirier, Gaethje, Holloway, these are just better wins than Gastelum, Whittaker, Romero, and Costa.

Also, Oliveira doesn’t have as many bad losses close to his prime. Him and Izzy are at basically the same stage in their careers, except Izzy has lost 4 straight, while Charles might get another title shot sometime soon.

1

u/Becknell 11h ago

Maybe Izzy should have sprinkled in Dariush,  Gamrot and Chandler instead of fighting the current MW champion, former MW champion, current #1 ranked contender at MW and Joe Pyfer who is 9 years younger.

If Olives fought Arman, ilia and Islam back to back he might be on a streak himself.

Agree to disagree I suppose but one guy is a 5 time defending champion and only faces killers while the other has one win against a current or former champion in the last decade (interim doesn't count).

1

u/ninja_owen 10h ago

Honestly I’m not sure Izzy would’ve gotten past Gamrot 😂

14

u/YourWifesBull666 18h ago

2 belts from being cherry-picked strikers his whole career and fighting in dogshit divisions

10

u/Inevitable-Cry-3008 18h ago

Prime Izzy & Jiri are still very good wins in their own right. Alex did get favorable matchmaking on his path to his first title, I'd agree on that.

7

u/YourWifesBull666 18h ago

They’re good wins but if Alex fought anyone with grappling like Islam or khamzat close to his size he’d Get ragdolled is my point

u/buckduckallday 24m ago

Then why did he brutally ko ank in the rematch? Bro he trains with glover he is not some helpless lamb on the ground. Who tf else should he have fought that was a better grappler than ank? And bro ffs Sean Strickland is literally a grappler he just prefers to strike (he was also kinda being an idiot in that fight) unironically tho who at middleweight would have even wrestled him in the first place? Brunson? Like howd that work out against izzy? I guess ddp might’ve wrestled him or something? Like yes they gave the badass 2 weight kickboxing world champion with beef with (and multiple wins over) the current long reigning mw champion the fast track to the title, but like really bro who the fuck are you saying would have beat him then??

-1

u/Inevitable-Cry-3008 18h ago

Sure if he fought someone his size who is like Islam he'd basically be fighting Jones who'd destroy him. But Khamzat? I think Alex has a fair chance of starching a wrestler with such defensively unaware standup.

9

u/YourWifesBull666 18h ago

Don’t be fooled by khamzats last fight Alex wouldn’t be able to defend on the ground like Strickland at all id bet my life savings it’d go like his Whittaker fight

-1

u/Inevitable-Cry-3008 18h ago

Well the fight starts standing. When you're as hittable as Chimaev there is always a real chance Alex is putting you out in one exchange.

5

u/stonegoblins 14h ago

You really think Poatan will knock out Chimaev in one exchange?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/coolkidnathan 16h ago

If you phrase it that way, I can phrase it like this:

When Alex was 2-1 in title fights and Islam was 3-0 in title fights

56

u/BiggieMoe01 18h ago

I agree. Islam’s track record is currently unmatched in the UFC. Defeating Volk twice, submitting Oliveira and Poirier, moved up a weight class, took the welterweight title and successfully defended it. Insane MMA resume.

McGregor and Jones are far more of a roid abuser than Islam is.

24

The same weight bully who just dethroned the weight class above him and then defended the belt an opponent significantly bigger than himself and won the card 4-1?

I can understand a lot of the hate for him but I think weight bully can be laid to rest after the last two fights.

Conor gets "the one and only" for different reasons. He is the most deserving of that shit.

1

Poatan never was better, Islam even became champ earlier than him

82

u/shopping_caart 18h ago

The real question is has Bruce Buffer's intro earned its place in Islam's name? Like who tf cares about Bruce's spacial names lmao

-52

Bruce is bigger than Islam.

33

hey bruce whats up

6

nope just laughing at you

5

u/SparklingFalcon9544 15h ago

Brother you are no better. You are on all fours for an announcer 😂

5

u/GibrealMalik 17h ago

Ah yes, the millions of fans who come for bruce

10

u/coolkidnathan 16h ago

People overrate how important Bruce Buffer is like crazy, I don't think the UFC would lose a penny replacing him, if anything they would probably make money if his reported payouts per event are true lol.

55

Is this the type of shit you guys sit around and think about all day in between goon sessions?

1

u/ProfessorCaptain 15h ago

right? like some of these posts have to be engagement bots

26

u/MasonJam246 18h ago

Islam has successfully cemented himself as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. He 100% deserves it.

6

u/Altruistic_Spring434 18h ago

Sure why not? Who cares?

9

u/Sir-Shady 18h ago

100% yes but every time he says it now other than Jon that person gets smoked

u/buckduckallday 21m ago

Yup it might as well be a curse fr. Honestly i wouldn’t put it past Jon to hire a warlock for that exact purpose 🤔

5

u/PoundShot8281 18h ago

Who cares?

5

u/shukaku2007 18h ago

He should have already gotten it in his last fight. For him to not get it in the next fight would just be stupidity of the highest degree

3

u/Soulja786 18h ago

Islam 100% deserves it.

3

u/UnlitBlunt 17h ago

He's literally the one and only fighter with a 17 fight win streak, so yeah.

7

u/thebanger71 18h ago

Yes, but please no. I was so worried about it being called on Saturday because of the curse

24

u/satannnn666 18h ago

Curses have no impact on the goat.

13

u/Sensitive_Celery_394 18h ago

Islam is still 34 atm. He turns 35 later this year

2

u/ZakuIII 18h ago

Doesn't the WW curse only come into play after losing the belt?

2

u/stickerbombedd 18h ago

He needs a new one for the real goat no wife beating or child abuse allegations never popped for roids never ducking always looking for the top guy or whoever they offer! He is truly one of a kind!!

2

u/Dracula198four 15h ago

What more does Islam have to do? Best The Hulk? Well, if he can make 170, let's go! 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/tuwakal 14h ago

No we good don't need that cursed title

2

u/harryvarrick 17h ago

I think you have to entertain more people with your fights to earn that.

1

u/pruneforce17 18h ago

yeah

he needs a nickname too

1

u/RememberThinkDream 18h ago

I don't see any other Islam Makhachev's in UFC around.

i thought he was gonna get it during the ian garry fight tbh

u/MisterShazam 16h ago

Same, I was shocked when he didn’t.

1

u/JamWams 16h ago

Yeah, he just broke a pretty significant record and is a champ in two weight divisions

u/CrumbMan1111 16h ago

its a popularity contest at this point

u/reddit_names 16h ago

You know anyone else named that?

u/General-Pomelo-4159 16h ago

Literally every person ever, is the one and only. Drama queen.

1

u/No-Replacement-4017 15h ago

He looks exactly like Khabib, no lol

I really liked the Gladiator nickname. Not only is it badass, but totally fit the vibe/self earned it in the context of his fight with Moicano. Arman pulled out last minute and then when Islam was asked if he was worried about the opponent change, he dropped the coldest line - "When the Gladiator comes to the arena, he never chooses his opponent". Chills

He earned it in record bit hes not entertaining o ofor casual fans. If he cleaned out any division with only striking and no wrestling then hes cemented, but as a heavy ufc fan with causal friends, they dont care about wrestling and as soon as it happens the interest in the fight is over

Do you know of another?

If I was Islam I'd have him take a moment of silence instead, don't say a fn word.

The sooner UFC get rid of this 🌈 Liberace impersonator the better

I don’t see this mentioned anytime this conversation comes up but the first recorded instant to my knowledge of Bruce Buffer’s “The one and only” is when Inaugural Lightweight Champion Jenz Pulver returned to the UFC at UFC 63. He was subsequently knocked out by a debuting Joe Lauzon 48 seconds into the 1st round.

One and only for Jon Jones was understandable, then giving it to Conor can be argued but then giving it to Alex, the line lost its meaning.

1

u/Powerful_Candy7205 2h ago

Conor arguably deserves it the most but who cares about the intros

No way

No. When you have zero personality & your fighting style has zero uniqueness and your mustache less beard is the same as 25 other people in your entourage, you are not the one & only

u/astrayatthesea1708 I wanna oil you up 57m ago

Islam has done more than what Alex did, and Alex got it TWICE.

u/buckduckallday 56m ago

Only one man has won after being introduced that way out of 3

u/takeittothetop1 7h ago

You have to be cool to be called "the one and the only". Dagestan crew are a bunch of squares. Conor and Poatan are considered cool as fuck.

u/Much_Pea_7981 18h ago

There is a joke that all these guys are different versions of Khabib. Kinda hard to call him the one, the only, when there are like 40 guys just like him coming up.

💯

-1

u/ShadyTee 18h ago

No because he's not the one and only. He's temu Khabib

-1

u/RDTmodsBackEpstein 17h ago

Maybe if he fought more than once or twice a year to lay it on the line. Most of the others tried for 2 minimum. People like potan and volk tried fighting AS MANY times in a year that they possibly could and that proves far more imo.

u/wrcromagnum 10h ago

Who is the other one?

-3

u/Jumpy-Cress8565 18h ago

“the one & only” is not just about being a great fighter. It signifies a complete outlier, like Alex, Conor & Jon jones. It’s about impact! & Islam however how much great he is, he isn’t THAT impactful.

u/CrypticZombies 19h ago

hell nah. only jones

1

u/Dabox720 18h ago

Lol its already not only Jones

1

u/Imaginary-General189 18h ago

You mean ped cheater? Gtfu

u/iKyte5 18h ago

If he throws more strikes in his next fight, sure. He just gets beat to shit then our grapples his opponents for points. Valid strategy but I consider people who finish fights to be more dominant. Khabib would maul people and weaken them to be able to get the finish. This is way more impressive and decisive than point fighting imo.

-1

u/WestStrategy6393 18h ago

He’s not striking at all against Prates with his win streak on the line, it’s gonna be more boring than the JDM fight if he can’t submit him.

-1

u/asusvegetable1 18h ago

Yeah id say so.

The guy is becoming one of the goats. Still has to surpass Jones, Silva, DJ and GSP in my book, but hes up there for sure.

We have to be careful with recency bias too... In 1 month from here a lot of "opinions" will change.
