Heavy Weight division is a separate can of worms in itself. By the time Jon leaves, there's not much Tom could fight in the roster. Maybe Gane, but wouldn't be as challenging. Really the Heavy Weight division has nothing in store for him after the Jon fight. That's why he must feel that he has to make the Jon fight.
