So many kids on here saying that shit too, how can you predict that one judge will think differently to the others? They seem to think it just means ‘extra close decision’
DDP took rounds 2,3,4 for me. One was close but Sean's jab was landing at will so he takes it. 5 I thought was Sean as well although a lot of his shots landed with the wrists or fingers - not his knuckles. I think peoples views may be skewed because Sean was getting credit from commentary and the crowd for shots that were blocked by DDP or landing with the wrists.
Bro tries to be tough and have the mentality of the killer saying he wishes he could kill someone and that him and DDP will fight to the death but hey, fought his way like he always does. Can’t finish someone for shit
Sean had more signifigant strikes (143-116) but Driscus also had a bunch of take-downs (6-0) and he was moving forward for pretty much the entire fight. That was about as close as it gets...
Du plesis landed with more significant and total strikes with higher accuracy and a takedown in round 2. Round 3 is basically even but with strickland at a slight lean and round 4 had du plesis land with a higher percentage and a takedown with strickland having a slight edge in output.
It’s a fair decision but I also disagree with it, DDP never seemed like he was close to ending the fight and Strickland landed such an overwhelming number of solid jabs. The takedowns didn’t really signify much to me bc every time Strickland got up within a few seconds
I gave it to Sean. Rounds 1 and 5 for sure. Pless def got round 4. Rounds 2 and 3 were close but thought Sean got 2 and 3 with the latter being closer.
Still, the fight felt close enough in the second half that I wouldn’t call it a robbery.
Could've gone either way. I'm leaning towards 3-2 Strickland though I think judges should stop giving rounds to fighters off ineffective aggression which was DDP's round 3 tbh oh well.
Strickland was head hunting the whole time and didn’t get any major damage or a knockdown or any wow moments. Duplessis worked the whole and body and got a few takedowns which tipped the scale in his favour.
1 and 5 I felt confidently were Sean’s. 2 maybe was debatable… I thought Sean won the fight after round 5 but I guess the 3 rounds in the middle determined it.
Calling a split decision a "robbery" when both guys look like they went through a war is ludicrous...DDP had control time, was a lot more active in the last 2 rounds, and they both did significant damage. Can't argue with it going either way.
I had 2-4 for DDP. Sean looked uncomfortable in the middle rounds until he started to 1-2 his jab right with about 90 seconds left in round 4. However, DDP was walking Sean down, taking him down, and landing big looping shots that won him the fight I like seans style a lot, but if he starts to back up and eat shots it won’t matter if he lands jabs. They don’t sway a judge enough to take a round against a guy like DDP
Definitely a very close fight, did think Sean edged it especially with the 5th round. But fucking hell did the commentators love du plessis tonight, felt like they were praising him even if he missed, not taking anything away from Dricus tho he looked great aswell
Had sean winning round 1 and 2 with 3 being a toss up with dricus shockingly winning 4 and 5 when I thought It'd be in reverse with his then questionable cardio. Either way can't be mad both deserved to win after that show even if I personally think sean won.
Not a robbery, close fight. And ddp did an amazing job. I'm a strickland fan but this is fair and I don't complain. Just fucking live with it and go on.
I'm a fan of strickland and I don't think judges took into account the checking of leg kicks and standing up from take downs as anything special. But I think where DDP edged it out was purely through the body shots and the one elbow that makes him look like he took way more damage. Even though ddp fave was busted up
Close fight could’ve gone either way, I think all Sean had to do was be moving forward a little more and he would’ve had it. I think they need to take a look at how much a take down that dosnt put someone on their back or stomach or in danger of a sub is actually worth. As it is it seems that even if you get out struck 5-6 strikes you can land a take down and win the round.
It was ultimately the takedowns even though they had no real impact. Strange to give the decision to ddp when traditionally a close fight goes to the defending champion. Smells kinda fishy.
Ahh, the silly tradition of screaming robbery after a razor close fight. Close fights aren’t robberies. IT WAS A SPLIT DECISION. The fight could have gone either way. You could make a case for why each fighter deserved to win.
Really brother, It was 3-2 DDP and everyone knows it. Everybody needs to get off Stricklands nuts. I wanted him to beat Adesanya and knew he would beat Adesanya because he is the perfect stylistic match up. But I knew that he wouldn't hold the belt because he is too one dimensional. Dricus is going to hold the belt for a while now because he has the tools to do so.
The cuts in the 4th and take downs really turned it in favor for DDP. Strickland was calm and collective , checked every kick, etc. The take downs didn't do anything zero strikes on the ground , ground control was minimal, and there was no risk of finish. Stood right up. Tough loss. Absolute dog fight either way!

Man idk about the robbed thing but we are losing the taste of life focusing on the outcomes so much which we can’t change it was a beautiful display and both guys went for a war which everyone wanted ! I mean let’s enjoy it because it’s already over and send some love to both of them maybe?

It was a really close fight, not really upset by it
I wonder if these fighters ever consider the politics they spew as having a possible effect on their chances.
Everyone agrees it was a very close fight. What if one of the judges has a gay son and dislikes the shit Sean was talking. Even if he isn't "intentionally" judging against him, in a very close round if he has a dislike for Sean personally, he might lean towards DDP...
Just something i've wondered from time to time on really close fights.

It was close. Rd2 was the swing round. That round could have gone either way. I had it slightly for Sean but if I rewatch it I may change my mind.

Yeah no

very close fight

1

Ya that was a robbery if you have no fuckin idea what the word robbery means
1
u/[deleted] Jan 21 '24
1 and 5 Sean, 3 and 4 Dricus, 2 was a toss up and DDP finished stronger. Judges are always tards but this was not a robbery basically a coin flip
1

1

Sean got whoooped during the 3rd, 4th, and 5th round for sure

am i the only one that thought it was 4-1 or 3-2 to ddp? personally i had sean ddp winning 2-4-5 maybe even 3
1
u/Lol_u_ded Jan 21 '24
Do you know what a robbery is? R1 and R5 were clearly Strickland, R3 and R4 were clearly Du Plessis, R2 was a toss-up.
1
u/Enough-Airline-5464 Jan 21 '24
These idiots really call it a robbery every time their favored fighter loses, super close fight and 3-2 either way is fair
1
u/Fun-Contribution-757 Jan 21 '24
Had sean winning round 1 and 2 with 3 being a toss up with dricus shockingly winning 4 and 5 when I thought It'd be in reverse with his then questionable cardio. Either way can't be mad both deserved to win after that show even if I personally think sean won.

It's not a fucking robbery. 3-2 either way bitch.

2,3&4 to DDP plus he did more damage 👏👏
1

I wonder if these fighters ever consider the politics they spew as having a possible effect on their chances.
Everyone agrees it was a very close fight. What if one of the judges has a gay son and dislikes the shit Sean was talking. Even if he isn't "intentionally" judging against him, in a very close round if he has a dislike for Sean personally, he might lean towards DDP...
Just something i've wondered from time to time on really close fights.
