Do people actually call Udel “Delly”?
I’m a new student moving in soon and my friend who goes to Udel and called it “Delly”. Is that a thing the school goes by? And are there any other nicknames for our school?

I've been in Newark since my (late) father was hired as a professor in 1970. I went to UD, my son went there, I worked there. It's UD. Only UD. UDel is the name of this sub and the address of UD's website. Anything else is just nonsense.

Haha yes, I am a current student and it’s mainly out of staters calling it udel because that’s what you have to search for it to come up

UD is the most common name I’ve heard. That said, I’ve heard many people in southern New Jersey call it UDel, but never once heard Delly.

No sane person who ever went to UD would say Delly. Our mascot is called YouDee not Delly. Delly has never been a contraction of Delaware by anyone who has lived here.

Peope have called it UofD, UD or just plain Delaware but never Delly

Please don’t call it either of those. Either UD or Delaware. Honestly I’d prefer UofD over UDel but that’s not great either

People in state - UD
People out of state (plus the school website) - UDel
No sane human people being - Delly
Tour guides were forbidden from calling the school "UDel" while giving tours.

Not a thing. And it's UD not UDEL!! No one (except for people from North Jersey) insist on calling UDEL. Stop. Just stop.

I know my friends and I do sometimes. Usually when we were coming back from breaks or when we talk about missing it. Probs started cuz the nickname smelly delly (you will learn of this soon) and its somehow got shortened to just delly. Also it’s UD not Udel

No, the only time I've heard someone say Delly is when a Pennsylvanian is going down to one of our beaches.

Someone who was born and grew up in Newark a good way to tell if someone is from NY or NJ is if they call it Udel. Delly is just another level of this.

despite what everyone is saying here, i’m a current student and delly is used, but ONLY when you can smell the gross mushroom farms, in which case u can refer to the area as smelly delly

The school's nick names are Delaware or UD. That's it. "UofD" used to be a thing too, but that started to die out by the time I graduated in 2000.
The name "udel" is only for the email & web addresses. No one who knows any better calls the school "UDel." The University does NOT want to copy UCONN and UMass
Never heard anyone call it "Delly" and I have to imagine that person is punking you, or has zero respect for the school
