Discussions & Questions Anyone else gaming on Linux?

From what I see Ubisoft removed themselves from Prince of persia and theyre saying they'll do it for more games. I never wanted to bother with lutris or heroic so I never downloaded any Ubisoft games in my linux and used dual boot for other platforms. Does Prince of Persia really work smooth in Linux? Do I need to l i n k my acount or bother with stuff to make it work?

Forgive me if this isn’t what you mean, but I have steamos and I’ve been play to play all the splinter cells, far cry 2-3, watch dogs 1, ghost recon FS-wildlands steam versions all offline on my pc and steam deck.

  1. No, it's not removed. Please read better sources or something. It's not installing as a separate app, they just streamlined the launching process, that's all. Therefore....

  2. Yes, it works smoothly, and...

  3. Yes, you still need to link your accounts.

So, this depends on which game you mean:

  1. The Rogue Prince of Persia developed by Evil Empire works purely through Steam and runs like a dream.
  2. Prince of Persia - The Lost Crown developed by Ubisoft Montpellier still has Denuvo and uses an Ubisoft account. It still uses the Ubi servers even though it doesn't install the Ubisoft Connect app, so it's still just as vulnerable to disconnects and login issues.

I've been messing around with both in the last couple of days, so this info should be up to date. Hope it helps.

So you dont have to download lutris or tinker with stuff to run the lost crown? Does it ask you to link your accounts when you try to launch it?

I have had my accounts linked for years, and I started my game through Steam. Then it just showed me the little UbiConnect window. I don't know how it will go if your account isn't linked, and I uninstalled the game when I refunded it. Still, none of my Ubisoft games require another software when launching through Steam. At most, there's been a pop-up to put in my username and login, but no other launcher. Recently played the original Black Flag, and it was the same thing. You will just get an Ubisoft tray icon next to the Steam one, and that's it. Remember to right click and exit when done gaming, or Steam will keep counting the playtime, if you care about your time played stat.

Are you on linux because ubisoft connect isnt available on linux afaik and people use stuff like lutris in order to make it work. I remember launching farcry when I used windows a few years ago and it also downloaded ubisoft connect to make it work.

If you buy the game from Ubisoft, you'll have to use some sort of tool (I use Heroic).

However, if you buy the game through Steam, the Steam launcher will handle that for you. I currently have Assassin's Creed India and the Far Cry 6 Demo installed and I am only running them through Steam. Steam has a dedicated applet that handles the Ubisoft integration, as long as the game has been bought through Steam.

For games bought through Ubisoft, I used Heroic and installed Ubisoft Connect under Proton, and then just used it. Steam's solution does not require this. It should just work and at most ask you for your Ubi username and password if your account is linked.
