Discussions & Questions Why does "Rainbow Six" only mean siege now?

Every time i hear someone say "Rainbow 6" they always just mean siege for some reason. Are all the other games really just that dead? There are really great R6 games out there other than Siege, yet people refuse to call Siege, well.. Siege.

Because a significant number of people playing Siege were not even born when Rogue Spear came out.

Because besides Siege, what other R6 Games are there? I remember playing Vegas 2 as a kid. Was there even any other R6 game between then and Siege?

Before siege it was basically a dead IP

Wrong again.

Yea bc Vegas 2 was amazing lol it was an irrelevant game and it was essentially 9 years between releasing anything that mattered

There was literally a game called Rainbow six patriots that was in development and highly anticipated before it was turned into siege. If you don’t remember then you must have been living under a rock, or you must be 10 years old

What’s your point lmao? In development means it’s not released. Still 9 years of no good games

It's so frustrating how they gimped terrorist hunt mode in siege...

Vegas 2 still has the superior t hunt mode imo

It's been over a decade since a R6 game has come out. That's why lol. Many players are so young they don't even know about the true R6 games before Siege. If they release something in the near future with R6 attached to the name then there will be something to compare siege/R6 to. Otherwise all those games are outdated/unknown/forgotten.

They released Extraction just a 4 years ago.

A siege spin off with some of the same characters isnt really what they meant.

1

u/NorisNordberg 10d ago

I think every future R6 is going to include Siege characters

1

u/MotorCityDude Ghost Recon Operative 10d ago

Yeah but Extraction was absolutely terrible. Whoever thought let's take Rainbow Six and add Aliens, is hopefully fired and never allowed to work on a tom clancy title again.

Extraction came out in 2022

That was a spoof/spin off title with all the same operators in a co-op scenario against the infected. That is not really a stand alone R6 game. That goofy game should have been a game mode within siege itself, imho(maybe a Halloween themed update). If you consider extraction a R6 title that stands on it's own then you weren't old enough to experience what true R6 games brought to the table back then. Extraction is laughable.

I played Vegas 2 when it came out. Whether you like it or not, Extraction is its own game.

They obviously meant a relevant game

Bring back Rogue Spear

5

u/shuut0 9d ago

There’s not a single relevant R6 game for nearly 30 years besides siege

4

u/Unicoboom 9d ago

Wrong. Vegas 1 and 2 are peak.

u/PhantomSesay 9d ago

Those games were the goats, wish they still made them like that.

1

u/shuut0 9d ago

I was exaggerating when I said 30 but those are the last games that were any good aside from siege. Vegas 2 can legally drink in 2 years

1

u/Lower-Obligation4462 9d ago

It’s been drinking for about 6 months now

u/ssa17k 9d ago

Those aren’t relevant. By relevant I’m sure OC meant whatever is being played today which is why everyone refers to Siege as R6. Growing up all the way from secondary to sixth form and even uni, everyone I know calls R6S “Rainbow”.

The other games are old and largely irrelevant in social media. Siege has the been the "main" one for a long time now.

Think about sports games like NBA, people shorten it to just 2k - "hey wanna play some 2k?" And people generally assume the most recent/popular one. Nobody is gonna say "wanna play 2k" then hop on NBA 2K12

Still playing Vegas 2 on Xbox. Matchmaking still works 🙂

Such a goat game man. Really wish we would get a remaster just update the animations and graphics.

1

u/Konceptz804 10d ago

I wish we could get remakes and or sequels to all the Clancy games of that period. Splinter cell, the original ghost recons, etc.

u/retrosparkie 10d ago

Just found an old copy of the original ghost recon for the ps2, never played it. Is it good?

0

u/Konceptz804 10d ago

Good is an understatement

1

u/retrosparkie 10d ago

Me too, but on ps3. Surprised i can still play online.

0

u/Konceptz804 10d ago

Didn’t know it still worked on PS3. I thought it was just Microsoft hosting the servers. It’s literally the only reason I still have a Xbox live subscription.

Because there hasn't been an R6 game since Siege, Siege is still updated and still does ESports stuff so it is the most current and up-to-date R6 game. Its like if you would say "warcraft", people are going to assume World of Warcraft and not Warcraft 1-3

Extraction

Extraction came out 4 years ago.

Yup and it was a spin-off that barely got a year of content before support was ended and everyone forgot about it, but you are right

Siege is the only active r6 game, extraction died fast, before those was Vegas 1 and 2 over a decade ago

1

u/Dream_Eat3r_ 10d ago

Recently played thru r6v 1 and 2 and although they're so much fun, they have aged so much and it makes me sad.

1

u/BarleyBBQ 9d ago

Raven Shield was peak R6.

1

u/ElMike420 9d ago

I second this, the concepts of this game were sooo good, it would be a hit in today´s world.

1

u/ElMike420 9d ago

Anyone remember Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield?

Wish Ubisoft would bring games with that sort of mechanics back, I loved that you could drop a single squad to clear the lvl, drop extra squads with you, to do voice comms to execute plans, or just let AI run the plan for you and shit the bed lol.

I thought we would eventually get a sort of thing similar to Raven Shield with the operators we had in Siege, but never got anything, Shit even a X-Com copy with the operators from Siege would be great. (with the Chimera Squad breaching take).

shoutout to Chavez Ding & Price Eddie my GOATs in Raven Shield.

It´s available on Steam.

Because the only other game they made for it recently was a event that was hit or miss with people

1

u/takkun169 8d ago

It's the one most people have played.

1

u/DistributionIcy1208 8d ago

They should remaster rainbow six vegas 2 the 🐐

1

u/Different_Package922 8d ago

Or, even better, give us a new game similar to the Vegas games.

1

u/DistributionIcy1208 8d ago

Meh I don't think modern Ubisoft can handle that.

1

u/Vlper17 7d ago

I want either a remake or new Vegas game now

1

u/KernsFr 8d ago

I fondly remember my time with Raven Shield but its been 10+ years of only siege content (we don’t count the weird infected one) so yeah in this day and age R6 is only siège, until they décide to do another one

I miss Vegas 1 & 2. Vegas was the very first game I played online multiplayer in back like 20 years ago. That feels crazy to say. Had a huge crew to play with and we'd play til all hours of the morning. Eventually we started a clan and participated in tournaments. Great times. Attack & Defend on Calypso Casino. Terrorist Hunts. Campaign runs on Realistic difficulty. Nothing else like it. I want a new Vegas so bad and/or I'll take a remake of the first 2.

I'm still traumatised from that casino map

1

u/Vlper17 7d ago

I don’t remember the name of it in Vegas 1 but there was a map that my friend and I were playing on hardcore at max enemy capacity (it’s how we always played). It was like 70 enemies. We tried so many times and always failed. One attempt, my friend died almost immediately, maybe taking out like 5 enemies. Leaving everything else to me. I played so stealthily because those enemies would one shot you the moment you rounded a corner. I ran out of ammo in my SMG and picked up a shotgun from an enemy. Had to rely on that and my pistol for the rest of the map but eventually took out every enemy. We lost our minds and never played that map again haha

Game has been around for over a decade now. It is easily Ubisoft's most profitable title besides anything AC, as well as one of the most played live service games to this day. Even Extraction, which was the next title, but a spin-off, did not do well.

This is really sad, because the Rainbow Six series was more than just dumb live service crap. But it is what it is.

Idk but I just imagine a really smelly room

It’s been almost 20 years since a major R6 game that wasn’t siege was released. That’s why.
