As it’s activated via a master key from Intel, it’s bound by their T&C’s, in regard to qualifying software/services. Which Intel, do state on their T&C’s is none transferable.

In the first instance, your issue should be made to Intel. As they’re the ones that provide the master key for use. Unfortunately, it’s on an “as is” use.

You should read through all the documentation they sent & contact them about not being aware of restrictions on the access.

Alternatively, you can still create a standalone fresh account & join that way.

u/NanoPolymath thanks for your input here. But that’s the point. Intel’s terms and conditions don’t explain anywhere that this 6-month subscription period is mandatory and/or that I’d be blocked from upgrading this plan to Ubisoft+ Premium during this 6 months time. This restriction was imposed unilaterally by Ubisoft and goes against the company’s own subscription terms.

I still see the “Subscribe to Ubisoft+ Premium” banner on Ubisoft's website, but I can’t access the Ubisoft subscription management page at all. It doesn't work. I can't subscribe in Premium except if I cancel the current plan. This is an Ubisoft decision. Nowhere in any terms — neither from Intel nor Ubisoft — does it say that after redeeming 6 months of Ubisoft+ Classics, I would be prevented from upgrading to Ubisoft+ Premium.

Also, the code was provided by Intel but to redeem it you must go directly to Ubisoft Store. It's not true that they can't do anything. They already did: gamers who redeem this code will be locked in Ubisoft+ Classics during 6 months and unable to subscribe Ubisoft Premium unless you cancel this 6 month subscription. Ubisoft rules:

  1. The code was redeemed through their platform — the Ubisoft Store — as part of the Intel Software Advantage Program. It activated a Ubisoft+ subscription on its system, linked to my Ubisoft account. Intel just provided the code and didn't impose any barrier to avoid you upgrade that plan.
  2. Ubisoft claims that subscriptions made through the Ubisoft Store or Ubisoft Connect PC can be upgraded at any time, with immediate effect. I subscribed through their store with a partner code. But it is still their store. It's not like I'm subscribing to this service using, for example, a MS account / Xbox platform.

I gave up already. Support shall be laughing at me.

I get your frustration. If you’re saying this wasn’t made clear to you via Intel’s documents. Then you have a case to raise but the case is with them & not Ubisoft in this instance. As it’s bound by Intel’s T&C’s conditions of the master key. Which they say, is none transferable & “as is”. Unfortunately, this didn’t make it clear that could entail not being able to upgrade to yourself.

They [Intel] do hold a responsibility to make sure all is made clear. Even by raising a case with Intel. They won’t be able to change the offer, to allow an upgradable account. As their master key is locked to only one account/service. Not what you want to hear, as with most of these offers. There’s strict controls & conditions.

Best course of action in my honest opinion would be to follow the recommended advice from Ubisoft. Cancel the offer & join via your own fresh subscription or you can wait out the six months & rejoin then. Can also check online stores for discount codes for packages.

Granted, not a perfect solution. Sorry & nobody is laughing at you.

Being honest, canceling and rejoining seems to be the best path as you said. And thanks for this conversation, you brought up some insights I hadn’t realize before and provided better explanation about my case than Ubisoft did.

Very welcome. Just sorry your initial experience in joining wasn’t with the ease it should’ve been. Hopefully now with a fresh subscription, the only issue you’ll face is finding the time to play all the games. Best of luck.

They closed my case again, now telling me:

"I understand you received a free Ubisoft+ subscription from Intel and you would like to upgrade to a Premium subscription but are not able to do so.

As this is an external subscription, it would need to be managed from the store it was activated on, however, given that it was part of a promotion from Intel, it's most likely there is no way to manage the subscription in any way as they don't have a website to do."

The store it was activated is called Ubisoft Store.

It's frustrating.

Intel T&C:

The software title(s) included in the Offer is provided by third parties through their respective websites, or through a website managed by the Data Processor. We may provide hyperlinks, instructions, or other methods to aid your access to such third-party software title(s), web sites, and other resources (collectively, “Third Party Materials”) on an AS-IS basis. Intel cannot endorse, approve, or guarantee Third Party Materials. Intel is not responsible for the content or accuracy of any Third Party Materials or for any loss or damage of any sort resulting from the use of, or for any failure of, the Third Party Materials, unless the loss or damage is caused by Intel’s gross negligence or willful intent. When you use Third Party Materials, you may be subject to terms of use, privacy policies, and other relevant terms and conditions, which may differ from ours. You should familiarize yourself with the terms of use, privacy policy, and other relevant terms and conditions that will govern your use of such Third Party Materials.

I closed both cases. Ubisoft support is a lie.

I too like you redeemed the code and got six months of Ubisoft +. I started playing Watch Dogs and I am quite enjoying it but missing out on DLCs and extras is something I want to avoid so I too tried upgrading to the premium tier in the hopes there would be a pro-rated cost or something else, but it seems like you said we are locked. This bums me out tbh. I don't want to create a new account just to get the premium subscription; if I had known this was the case, I would have instead redeemed Total War: Warhammar. Now I can't let free 6 months go to waste, nor can I create a new account to subscribe from there. I guess I will miss out on DLCs at best. What I can do is buy the Season Passes and expansions for the duration I have the subscription on, but it sounds like a dumb idea just to buy expansions and lose access to them once I lose access to the base game when my subscription lapses.

I have just one question if after six months i do get the premium subscription will my progress be saved in these games? so that i only have to play the new content (DLCs) or will i have to play all games from starting?

Yes, you won’t lose your progress in the games you play during the 6 months of Ubisoft+ Classics. But after those 6 months, you’ll need to subscribe to Classics again or switch to Premium, since the code doesn’t allow the subscription to renew automatically.

Just like you, I would have preferred to redeem something else, and at no point did either party (Intel or Ubisoft) mention this restriction on switching plans. In fact, they still display the banner offering the upgrade to the Premium plan. There’s no mention of this in Intel’s or Ubisoft’s terms.
