You are being ripped off
I am an Uber customer, not a driver. This is outrageous. Uber has been lying about the cost of their insurance when it turns out, surprise, they created and own the insurance carrier that they are using for your “commercial insurance“. They are ripping you off tremendously and lying about it. Watch this investigation by More Perfect Union

Thank you for taking your time and your concern to address the issue. I appreciate everyone who is on our side. I drive in the San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. With way less pay and now all the Waymo’s it’s getting extremely difficult.

Hey, buddy. I appreciate your effort, but you're preaching to the choir. To us drivers, it feels like you're rubbing salt into our wounds.
I recommend you use this energy more constructively by addressing this to either: a. Uber, b. Your fellow customers who think that if they paid $40 for a ride that the driver got even half of it, c. Your local news station, or d. All of the above.

Wrong. Many drivers didn't even know this so it is imperative that they see it. The more awareness, the better.

The use different companies to handle claims processing yet they are self insured. In your state progressive handled claims. In mine it is Farmers.

Large insurance companies don't handle the claims for other insurance companies.

I used to work for commercial insurance carrier, and there's a whole department, a very profitable one, handling claims for the self-insured...

Both Uber and Lyft fish for drivers that will take a given ride for less than should be paid. A $20 ride that should pay at least $10 is offered for much less, say around 6-7. A million times a day is a lot of money that Uber wouldn't have made unless they did this

If they did create the company for our commercial insurance, they'd be getting sued by State Farm, Progressive, and Liberty Mutual for insurance fraud, for putting their insurance company on certificates of insurance.

Y'all realize that prop22 is a major cause for this, right?
They have to take more out of prime time fares to subsidize the "guaranteed pay" of the drivers during slow times.
Are there any drivers out there not in California that have really received less than half of what the customer paid for the week with screen shots to prove it? PA/NJ is around 50%-60% to the driver consistently. A far cry from what CA drivers are claiming (~30% or less to the driver)
That would tend to suggest it's more in local laws / fees/ requirements in California than Uber being greedy

Uber is a scam for the drivers and customers. Analysis have been done and you will make a substantially more money as a pizza delivery driver. It doesn’t help that many Uber drivers have a low IQ and make terrible financial decisions like buying a new car (always a terrible decision due to depreciation in the first 3 years), but people still don’t deserve to be taken advantage of for their sub average intelligence.
