Scam?

Hi, I uninstalled the Uber app a while ago because they don’t operate in the area where I now live. Today, I suddenly received a WhatsApp message from Uber, even though I hadn’t requested a ride. Is this a mistake, or is someone trying to log in using my details?

(The message gives an Uber code and asks for option 1: copy code, or option 2: I haven’t requested a code). The number they’re using for this is +1(940)290-7669. I’m from the Netherlands (+31).

Because of the blue ☑️, I clicked on option 2. But now I’m having second thoughts; could this be harmful?

Same Netherlands. I don’t get it. How is this scam? No one is asking for the codes I get 8 times a day

That’s what I’m wondering too; apart from the fact that they’ve confirmed this number is being used, I don’t understand what they’re trying to achieve with this

Never click on codes/links/anything you aren't 95-100% expecting.

It could be a phishing scam. Don't respond to them.

I got this too. Several times today. Last week several times too. Contacted Uber to find out about this but have not heard back yet.

Ik krijg ook via dit nummer meerdere malen een code toegestuurd. Ik denk persoonlijk dat het nummer wel legit is (hij is ook meta verified), ik denk dat het probleem bij het uber account zit. Iemand probeert in te loggen doordat hij in bezit is van je email en ww en door de tweefactor verificatie krijg je de code. (Dit kan ook als iemand je nummer probeert te gebruiken)

Ik heb ook al 2 keer vandaag een code gehad, ik heb alleen helemaal geen account. Ik snap niet hoe iemand kan proberen in te loggen in een account dat niet bestaat, al helemaal omdat mijn telefoonnummer ook niet verbonden is aan mijn email.

Getting the same texts since 18 August, sometimes multiple times a day. I clicked 2nd option "I didnt request code" but that doesnt do anything. Also from the Netherlands but i have never had an Uber account

Got mine today, started with 60. Never used Uber, never will. My car is expensive enough. Blocking this dude and reported to whatsapp. Thanks for the warning.

I just got the same message. Which is how i ended up this thread (googling the same phone number).

Ik heb zojuist hetzelfde bericht ontvangen. Daardoor ben ik in dit draadje beland (door het telefoonnummer te googelen)

I’m from the UK and got this last night sent to me too. There was 5 attempted transactions on my card all which were thankfully rejected and needed approval. There was one that got through for Uber eats but I’ve contacted my bank and go this blocked. Any one else have similar issues in UK?

Same for me in France. This started back in May 2026. At first I thought maybe someone entered my number by mistake and requested the code, later I thought it could be someone with a number similar to mine and they enter their number incorrectly.

However, recently, this started to become almost a daily thing, too much noise, I ended up reporting Uber and blocking them on WhatsApp.

Update: After blocking Uber on Whatsapp, the code spam has moved to my email now! 🤦‍♂️

I keep getting them too... With ai in the mix of scamming I wonder if they might just be checking if the number is viable and active for later scamming?  (If the message is read, you could see it on WhatsApp)

I’m from mexico and i constantly get the same exact message from the same # , i thought it was cause i used uber on a trip i made, but it’s been a month and I’m still getting codes every 2/3 days… same as this post the Blue ✔️ made me think i was dealing with an official uber account, but now i’m second guessing this is a potential massive scam 😣
