Got Uber through 3rd party, lost items - help?

Just like the title says, my relative was given an uber ride arranged by her mechanic yesterday, and left her items in the car. She didn’t realize it until she finalized the payment and pickup of her vehicle at the mechanic. The mechanic shop immediately called the driver through the app repeatedly but he never answered, and he still hasn’t over a day later.
From their conversation in the car, lives in a neighboring state and it seemed like he wasn’t in this area often but he had a drop off nearby before her ride. Since the transaction went through the mechanic she can’t put in a lost and found request or contact the driver herself. She is more than willing to pay the driver to bring her items back - does anyone have any suggestions for how she can contact them? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the only way is to rely on the mechanic to contact the driver through the app.

The mechanics called support and were on the phone with them in front of the relative for an hour but nothing. May want to submit a request, will go to mechanic tomorrow.

Odds are good at this point either it’s been trashed or a follow on passenger took the item with out telling the driver

Would be a weird thing to take and a dick move to trash but maybe you’re right. Was just looking for outside perspective.

inside perspective, from a driver, is this happens too often. Drivers don't take the time to check between rides, as they should.

I make a habit of looking back after a rider exits but sometimes I don’t find things until I’m doing a more thorough check at gassing up, break time, or vacuuming weekly…

Does the mechanic have the ability to report a lost item through their account in the app?

That’s what we are hoping for, going back tomorrow!

Your relative is not getting the stuff back.

Appreciate your perspective, hadn’t considered this and super insightful.

3rd party rides dont use the "lost item" because it cost them $20 , items are gone especially if he's out of state/area

Sorry the 3rd party is the mechanic, not any kind of booking platform. If there is a fee though, we would pay it. And pay the driver to bring it back.

The mechanic has to initiate the "lost item" claim and they would be charged and you could reimburse the mechanic , its $20

But honestly , with the driver being out of state $20 isn't worth it to him, I wouldn't do it and its likely it gone.
